Home Prices RISING in nearly half of U.S. markets

This article only lasted a few hours on the front page of the New York Times online. I guess it didn't fit with the scare tactics theme that seems to be selling so well thses days. Apparently in 73 markets (including Austin), prices are still rising. In 77 markets, prices are falling. That's doesn't sound as gloomy as one might expect from the tone of most media outlets.

Housing markets are impacted differently. Even within the same city, things are different from one area to another.

real estate is so local down to one side of a street being strong and the other being a down market. Overall, the media has overhyped the issue as with most things (don't get me wrong, the ARM resets on the horizon are going to make things even choppier), but to portray real estate as being on its deathbed like the media has done is just stupid.
