Home Gym help

I have kind of let me weight get out of control again so I am looking to invest in a new home gym. I would simply join a regular gym, but I sometimes work long hours so it is just more feasible for me to get a home gym. Anyway, my wife has a both a Gazelle & a stair stepper which I sometimes use & they aren't bad. I switch them up with walking/jogging to break up the monotony. The Gazelle commercials are kind of dorky but it actully provides a decent aerobic workout.

Anyway, getting back to the point, I'm looking for a resonably priced home gym system somewhere in the price range of $300-$400. I don't want to get huge but I am looking to tone up a bit. I just want something with moderate weight training to compliment the aerobic side.

Any ideas? Thanks & Hook'Em!

you should be able to get a decent multi-use free weights bench system for $350-500... then you'll need the bar+weights which is about $125.... then also get some dumbells.. get a few different weights.. 5lb 15lb 30lb 40lb... those will be a bit expensive, but not too bad...
and you should also get an EZ curl bar as well.. $25.. I'd venture to say you'll be more at $700-$1000 to be well set up..

Whatever you do, don't buy new- - buy used. Dumbasses are always selling their barely used stuff for dirt cheap. Last year I bought a full bench/squat rack with a lat pull down deal, 7' bar and 300lbs of olympic weights, bench with leg attachments and two deluxe rubber mats and barbells and stufffor $300. That would have easily been $1500 new.

I bought a $1,000 treadmill for $300.

Buying new is a huge waste of money. Just watch the papers.

Wise words from tbone! Gym equipment, along with washer and dryers, are some of the objects that people are very likely to sell for really cheap instead of trying to take along with them when they move. You can find some really good deals in the paper, but also in places like Greensheet and Thrifty Nickel. You might laugh at those, but they charge nothing for people to put their ads in to sell stuff as long as they aren't a business, so you might get a lot more options.

tbone makes a valid point.... fitness equipment is definitely something you can get used and in great condition... with as many people as there are that join gyms and never go, there are probably a ton more that get home equipment and never use it...

When I was in college, I bought the following:

Olympic sized bench with leg attachments
450 lbs of weights in various increments
a large collection of dumbells
a declined bench for situps

Total cost $150-200 (it was a long time ago, I don't remember the exact price) at play it agian sports on Burnet.

I shopped quite a bit for my stuff. Personally, I found much better pricing from individual sellers than from PIAS. They were actually pretty close to retail from what I found.
