Holy crap. I just want to cry. HD TV repair...?

So in the process of adjusting some connections on the back of my 51" Sony HDTV just now, I managed to knock the center speaker off the top of the TV, and it careened into the TV screen, causing a handful of minor gashes/scratches in the picture.

Sigh.

This thing is about two weeks old. Two goddamned weeks old.

Anyone know what my options are? Don't care what it costs, I gotta get this thing fixed.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

If you scratched the screen protector, just take it off. (and don't drop the center speaker on it anymore)

EDIT: Nah, my warranty card (looking at it right now) says the warranty "does not cover cosmetic damage or damage due to acts of God, accident, misuse, abuse..."

This is gonna have to come out of my pocket, I guess.

I'd call either the store you bought it from or A&B TV (512-454-4534) and see if they have any recommendations.

Every time I move my entertainment center to make connections I worry the TV's going to tip over and fall out. I've been lucky so far.

Tell me about it, Dan. The thing's on casters, you wouldn't think tipping would be a concern, but I still worry.
So, I went with Affordable Electronics on Anderson Mill, since they're about 2 miles away from my house. It looks like with parts and labor, it's going to be around $270. I'm fairly technical and might
be able to do it myself, but I've been up, over, and around the TV, and I can't for the life of my figure out how you'd get the external covering screen (which is, thankfully, all that got scratched) off.

$270 in repairs, for an $1800 TV. Well, not really much choice involved.

I have since relocated the center speaker off of the TV. It will only be placed there when I need it (watching a movie), from now on.

Thanks for all the advice, folks.

I found this:

The Link

I thought I may have been able to find some instructions or feedback as to how to remove the screen protector. There wasn't much out there though.

Minivette, I appreciate you going to that much effort to try to help out. I'd looked on Sony's site, and came up empty. That's a pretty good link. Sincere thanks!

No problem. When I bought my first HDTV, it literally blew up two weeks later.

So, I somewhat know how you feel.

If it makes you feel any better- I had a 36" Sony tube tip over off a dolly a couple of years ago while moving. Had to scrap the whole tv. It still hurts.

Funny thing is that we have a ~1980 JCPenny black and white TV that we've abused, and beaten to ****, but it still works. still gets a clean picture.

I was the treasurer of a UT organization in 99, and dropped $2,000 cash down a sewage drain. Call the city and everything. The charged me $200 for removing the drain, etc, and we never found the money. I am still mad about that.
