Hogs fans on the rivalry

Found this thread over at Hogville....Great thread about stories from the rivalry that people are sharing. Don't worry they arent all about games Arkansas won so it's a good read. The only thing I don't get is that a lot of them mention the refs always cheating them because they were the only team outside of Texas in the SWC....But what I don't understand about that theory is that they achieved great things in the SWC and now have become an also-ran in the SEC.

Anyway...At 25 and only a Longhorn fan since college I don't know much about the rivalry. I'd love for some of you guys who grew up when it was big to also share some stories.

Texas - Arkansas

I live in NE Texas. On the border.

Here's all you need to know: arkies hate the state of Texas in general, an esp UT fans--even worse than OU fans. Hate, I say.

Keying a car and finding it funny as a group is low-class. That's Arkansas for you.

We should require each Hog fan to submit a $50 deposit for cleaning up the stadium after they leave.

All you need to know about the people of Arkansas is that after the 1969 Game Of The Century the Longhorn Band had to divert their buses over to Oklahoma to get home because no one in Arkansas would sell them gasoline.

My parents went to UT in the early 60s, and the thing they most remember about Arkansas fans is that when they visited Memorial Stadium, after they departed, the entire visitor section was covered in chicken bones. Apparently they didn't want to purchase concessions from our stadium, so they'd sneak large amounts of fried chicken into the stadium and eat it during the game.

So to me, I don't think of them as Hog fans, I think of them as chicken-bone hillbillies.

Memories...

They are such a "whiny little brother" fan base. They cling to an ancient rivalry because they have nothing else to cling to. Arkansas has had so little athletic success (besides track) that they all think they are still in Texas' league. Meanwhile, Texas has replaced Arkansas as a rival many times with far better teams. It really is pathetic.

Brett Stafford to Tony Jones with 0:04 left, game over.

John Hagy had a HUGE INT that he returned deep into Arkansas territory in the second quarter. Metcalf scored a few seconds later. Without Hagys' pick, we lose.

All you need to know is, Oklahoma is a step up from Arkansas. (I can't believe I said that!)

Imagine an entire state living a conspiracy theory and you have Arkansas during the SWC years. They felt the other conference members, all from Texas, ganged up on them. The rivalry was especially intense with Texas, because we were both usually very good, and sometimes, Arkansas won. (But not the big one, in 1969.)

Arkansas measured itself against UT. (If swine fan from back in the day is honest, he would say Arkansas didn't measure up in a lot of ways.) They were the proverbial little dog trying to pick a fight with the biggest dog.

UT/Arky wasn't just a rivalry, it was intense hatred on their part, especially in knowing that they were just one of three big rivals for us, and not the biggest one, at that.

A decade plus in the SEC hasn't made things any better for the hardcore piggie...who still thinks of UT as the Anti-Christ.

Fun story about Tony Jones. When I was growing up here in Austin I would hang out with my best friend at the time my next door neighbor. We were 5 or 6. One day my friends cousin is over and my dad is outside throwing the football with us. My dad thinks man this guy throws the ball pretty hard. Turns out it's Tony Jones. Great guy.

In other thoughts, I kind of wish we scheduled Arkansas every year as one of our OOC games.

arkysaw was the least penalized team in the SWC year in and year out, yet the inbreds complain that they were hosed 20 years after abandoning price. that's rich.

Seeing as how both sides of my extended family live in Jonesboro, AR, this is a BIG game to them. They still bring up the '03 game like it happened yesterday. Arkansas fans truely suffer from 'Small Man Syndrome'

I was in LHB in 1985 when we beat them 15-13 on 5 fields goals. I've never seen a grandmother cuss so much. In comparison, OU fans are gracious!

Last year driving through Arkansas (It was too long to drive around the state) I caught a sports talk show in Little Rock complaining that arky has no true rival in the SEC. They try to start something with the other teams but no one seems to consider the hogs worth the trouble. Seems like they could only reminisce about the rivalry with UT. They outsmarted themselves leaving the SWC.

You pigs KNOW you'll never have the level of success or recognition UT has had in sports and academics. It's best you girls compete w/ the Ol Misses and Miss States of the world for that. More your speed.

Just so I'm clear, how many SEC titles has Arky won in football and basketball? You have enough room in the rafters and on the stadium walls to list them all? That's what I thought.

But hey, you'll always have track and that 00 Cotton Bowl to keep you warm. Losers.

Nothing funnier to me than Texans calling other states inbred. Apparently none of you have been to Jasper, Gladewater, Kemp, Royce City, Jacksboro, Quitman, Calvert, Liberty City, New Diana, Pittsburg, Daingerfield, Diboll, College Station and hundreds more I could name.

Get off of I-35 every once in a while and look around...but carry anti-bacterial.

Ark. is very similar to aTm in their antics. An ignorant fan base who thinks they're a CFB powerhouse despite the fact they haven't been a MNC contender for decades.

Pig fans are delusional morons known mainly for hurling objects like empty whiskey bottles at opposing fans & teams.

^^^I know piggy throws **** at fans. An SL in the band told us in 04 how he didn't want to go back b/c his friend was hit in the head with a Jim Beam bottle. So, what I mean to say is, **** piggy.
