Hitting with RISP? Please? Por Favor? Can you help me with this? WTF? Mother ******.

Keith Moreland's stat of if you get the leadoff runner on base 68% of the time he comes in to score is out the window now...

It takes some clutch hitting and that hasn't been going on for Texas for several years. The pitching and defense has bailed out the Horns for years now. I have talked about it season after season.

I was afraid the new ball might hurt us. You have to score some runs now in the college game no matter how good your pitching is. Striking out way too much and making base running errors will get you beat against the good teams and it's killing the Horns right now.

I really thought this team would hit better and it has to if it's going to make it to Omaha again.

Any hit with RISP is awesome but I like them with 2 outs even better. It is often the difference between winning and losing. One of my favorites, that I happened to see in person, was this:

Texas rallied back for two runs in the top of the second inning when Kalani Napoleon singled home a pair of runs with a two-out single. The rally began when Dragicevich made an error on a ground ball hit to third base by Ryan Hubele. Guthrie then gave up a single to Brandon Fahey and after a passed ball and a walk the Longhorns had the bases loaded to set up Napoleon's hit. The Longhorns took a 5-3 lead in the top of the fifth inning with a three-run rally sparked by Jeff Ontiveros' two-run homer. The roundtripper was his 20th of the season and established a new Texas single-season record. Texas had scored a run earlier in the frame when Quintanilla tripled to lead off the inning and scored on an RBI single by Majewski.

Senior/Junior leadership by example and words is also a big difference. The team feeds on successes. Nothing better than a low BA Sr getting the hit with RISP to pick up the starter who had a rough first inning.

Sometimes leaders have to produce with the longball as they did tonight vs SWT. Here is one of my favorite message sending HR's by a Longhorn champion:

Home run Seth Johnston. That was a monster shot. Baylor’s pitcher, McCormick, left a meat ball right over the middle and he crushed it. Texas is up two quickly and easily.

It was huge, timely, and showing the rest of the team what to do instead of just talking about it. Leadership comes in many forms. Clutch players are clutch when it matters.
