You know, there's been a lot of discussion of the lack of hitting/power for this years' team. I know, because I have felt the same way. I just haven't felt "comfortable" with the plate prowess the team has shown. Heck, we're only hitting .270 as a team on the season. That's low, right?
However, here's something I discovered last night because I was bored and decided to look at our team stats:
Through 58 games, Texas is hitting a whopping .270. On the other hand, our opponents are pounding us with an average of .195 through the same 58 games.
Through 58 games, Texas has struck out an astounding 314 times. However, our opponents have only struck out 500 times in those same games.
Homerun totals are low, to be fair, with only 13 Texas homeruns. Yet all these other teams that seem to still jack it out of the park on a regular basis, well, against Texas this season they have a total of 16. While at the same time, Texas is slugging at a .375 clip and opponents are only at .264.
Texas has exactly double the amount of RBIs this season with 272, versus opponents 136.
Texas is also 12% more succesfull than our opponents at stealing.
I guess what I realized is, while I like to see a lot of hits, and love to win games 12-0, it just doesn't seem to make a ****. Texas is better in almost every stat than every opponent we've played. Heck, the opposing ERA is just a hair more than DOUBLE what ours is with our 2.25 vs. "their" 4.51.
I hope this calms some people as it has calmed me. I cannot F'ing wait for the post season to start.
