Hitler relatives?

Didn't want to hijack the other thread but it got me to thinking. If there are any other Germans with the last name of Hitler? Can't imagine what they might go through even though they had nothing to do with his behavior.

Yeah, I dated a girl in HS whose last name was Bowie. I went to her house one evening to take her to the movies and while I was waiting on her, Mr. Bowie pulled what looked like a small sword out of a nice case and told me that it had been used to kill several Mexcians in battle or something...I was trying not to urinate on myself.

Anyway, later that night I told the gal about the knife story and she explained that her father wasn't trying to scare me but instead show me a priceless family heirloom, as it was an actual knife owned by her ancestor Jim.

There is a well-respected all around good guy federal judge here in Houston whose last name is Hitner except he's Jewish.

I had a Professor explain to our class once that they changed their names and faded to Bolivian with Mike Tyson. They wanted no part of that name, even distant relatives and people that never met him. You would be hard pressed to meet one that did not change their name.

An Army friend of mine tried to find some when he was stationed in Germany. He had no luck. They may exist but they are not exactly making themselves known.

I heard a rumor from a German teacher that a man with the last name of Hitler decided to move to America and was given the chance to change his last name upon arrival. Not knowing much English, he simply decided to add an S in the front.

I saw a documentary once that said that he had some relatives (maybe nephews) who relocated to the US and changed their last name. There probably have not been many newborn boys named Afolph in the last 50 years or so either.

My great-grandad who came from Germany was named Goering and changed it around 1941 to Ghering. I wonder why?

I get my haircut at Adolph's Barber Shop in South Austin. Adolph is Hispanic, so I guess that's cool. Haircut is only $9.

It's too bad that name is ruined, because I think it's actually pretty cool. Obviously not what it's connected with, I just mean the phonetic sound of it. Would be a cool name for a linebacker or something. Derek Hitler or Corey Hitler, etc.
That name's fooked forever now though.

My great-great-great grandfather (may have missed a "great") was Robert Emert. He started a revolt in Dublin, Ireland against the English in 1803. It didn't go so well. It lasted a day before he was caught and hung.

Anyway, when his children moved to the U.S., they changed the last name to Emmett to avoid the infamy. Named my son Emmett because I thought it was a cool story.

I remember seeing a History Channel program about this, and as I remember, there are Hitler relatives who relocated to, and live in, the U.S. Long Island, I think. They changed their name and although interviewed on the show, were only seen in silhouette. Very guarded and paranoid about it--can't say that I blame them.

I think Hitler's father's name was Alois Schickelgruber, so Hitler either changed his name or was adopted.

I went to grade school with a girl whose surname was Goehring. They claimed some kind of kinship with Herman--seemed kinda proud of it.

nothing like a little blatant hate. That kid has no chance for a normal life.

and YEEESH that family photo - i honestly thought the guy on the left was the mom at first and then i saw the mom on the right and I thought it must have been an "alternative" family arrangement....
