Hicks declares his top six

As I have been since I first saw his highlight videos, I am keeping my fingers crossed.

This class has the potential to be one of the very best in history, and not just at Texas.

Thanks for posting.

Should we read anything into the fact that he seemed to have less to say about Texas than the other schools?

Shark, what is your opinion or hunch on what will go down with this? I know you are in our backyard and all but what is the buzz on the Buckeye boards? What are their hunches, once taking away homerism?

Wasn't he the one who expressed interest way back when or is it his being such a stud that we, like other schools, showed the interest first? I think it was the former, right? He opened that door for us to aggressively knock, right?

Hicks is playing close to the vest. He was apparently burned in one way or another by a recruiting site, so info coming out of his camp is limited.

He is not from Ohio and his ties to the area are therefore not particularly deep. He was reared in the South and has generally talked of returning to the South to play college ball. He has in the past been a fan of UT football and continues to have real interest in the program, along with those of Forida, Bama, etc.

Most tOSU recruiting junkies and so-called experts have at all times considered him a hard target. He is going to take work on the part of whoever gets his services. Moreover, most think the Buckeyes had some considerable ground to make up in order to reach the point where it now appears they are: in the mix.

The kid seems pretty sincere, so I don't think that the increase in face time he has taken with tOSU is some sort of screen to avoid the ire of in-state homers. He is looking to find a place where he likes the people, where the people are 'good,' etc. He seems very comfortable with the Buckeyes' staff and is being given advice on the process by one current Buckeye and a former Buck, each previous players in his HS program.

He camped at tOSU over the last couple of days but did not work out. He continues to build familiarity with the staff and states that the whole program has grown on him. He has no plans to camp anywhere else this summer, but he will take all of his officials.

He feels that going away to school has advantages, something he used to assume he would venture, but he has recently also been seeing the light in re staying closer to home. There are admitted advantages to both. He is close to mother, who raised he and his siblings by herself, and there are rumors that she has quipped that the boy will not be playing college ball outside the state of Ohio. I don't really believe she will interfere with his choice, but I do believe that she would rather him stay close.

In the end I think that tOSU has certain advantages, though among them is NOT a loyalty or long-time affinity to the program or the state/region. tOSU had expended a large portion of the advantage in getting into the mix. All that is left is the residence of mom ini a state that has a program that, football wise, can give him anything and everything that he might find elsewhere.

It is not possible to say with confidence, in my opinion, where he will go and I don't think that he is really leaning anywhere at this point. Things like playing time, the history of the program's LB production, recent success, etc., are not likely to make a difference. It is going to be a comfort thing, a people thing. I think tOSU will be in it until the end, but beyond that, who can say?

I was expecting one tenth of the info and in depth attention that you gave from Shark or anybody else. I thank you greatly for that insight.

Heh, fair enough. I was not sure what you would be able to add to his post but was hopeful. I guess we both wait on his info!

Saw an interview with him.

What a well-spoken young man. He appears to have the intellectual facilities to make it at a place like Texas.

Certainly, if his top choices are Ohio State, Florida, and Texas, we've got the academic advantage. Not sure if that matters to him or not, though.

If Hicks has a final three of us, tOSU, and Florida, he can't really go wrong, no matter who he chooses.

I'd love to think UT has any kind of an edge on the other two, including academics, but I seriously doubt that will come into play in the decision Hicks makes. I don't have any inside knowlege on him, but Hicks seems like he'll commit based on the feel he gets of one of the three over the other two.

I've got to admit that it worries me the longer he goes without visiting...hope his intention still is to come to Austin. This is no slam on Columbus or Gainesville, but Austin can hold its' own with any college town in the country.

I'm not holding my breath on Hicks committing to the good guys, but I am encouraged that we're still strong with him, despite the fact it's been over a year since he's been to town.

He may not end up in Austin. He is not going to jerk UTs coaching staff and fans around ala the above trio of trauma-drama hounds.

He has made it clear that he is going to take his time and the coaches at all schools are on board with that decision.

I think that the top three of the 6 are UT, tOSU, and UF.

He intends to visit. Until he does or changes plans in favor of bypassing a visit there is no reason to be especially optimistic or pessimistic.

lol...Oh, I don't know...Columbus is great, in a couches are burning out in the street sort of way. Nope, I didn't go to tOSU, but I do have family up just east of Columbus, and I have visited the tOSU campus area. It's pretty cool in a Big X sorta way...not the Drag, but better than collie station, and a whole lot better than the strip mall campus up in Norman. My point is that Hicks apparently doesn't have a loser in his (perhaps) final three. My tongue was firmly planted in cheek when I said Austin holds up to any college town out there...the only town I'd prefer for a college experience might be wherever the University of Hawaii is located.

cool,

OK, maybe cooler than dead-dog/dixiechicken, I'll give you that
....but could Columbus really hold a candle to the charm that is the stockyards in Lubbutt??
