Herman’s Monday Presser

Texas has one of, if not the best young head coaches in the country. We need to hang on to TH. He’s only 43. He’s gonna make us forget about Mack Brown.

Loved what I heard, but I won't get too excited, lets wait and see what he creates with this program. He might be everything we were looking for but it's way too early to know.

You know I really wanted Charlie to be a good coach here but after his first pressers I knew it wouldn't happen.
Maybe TH won't be the ONE
but he surely looks and sounds like he will be.
His attitude on "expecting " to win versus being prepared enough to win is Wow. Yes

In one of the post-game videos you could hear Herman in the background, I assume in the locker room pre-game, saying something like “in sixty minutes it’s going to be so fun standing in the middle of that field.”

I like how he is putting that vision of success in their minds. It may seem like a little thing but I think the psychology of competition can be an important factor.

Amazing how much better all this sounds when you win. Remember TH was still positive on this team after the Maryland loss and he was chided for it.

I always liked Mack's approach. Hearing some of his pregame statements, he wasn't a "fire them up to where they're ripping the lockers off the wall" guys, but he was just matter-of-fact "We're gonna go out, play like we've played all year, we're stronger, we're in better shape, we all know what to do, and we're gonna go whip their ***. Let's go." And he'd do that immediate turn and walk out the locker room, like "ok mike dropped, I don't even have to see how pumped they are."

Interesting comments on the wideouts in terms of why the top three are getting such a substantial share of the reps as opposed to last year.

TH doesn't throw people under the bus but he also doesn't sugar coat things. The top 3 are pulling away from the rest and getting the most playing time. Period.

It's refreshing

It IS refreshing.

CJ, LJH and Duvernay are kicking *** at WR right now.... they are finding ways to get open, they catch the ball if Sam gets it close enough and they downfield block!

Yet, there are seasoned and capable guys working to get some reps / back in the rotation... John Burt, Jerrod Heard, etc. Burt made the first catch I've seen from him in while. We got more depth here than probably any other position on the team.

TH on belief team plays to level of competition, "We can't just roll our helmets out and expect to win. I mean, Have you seen the last four years?" Good shot at Charlie Strong and what was left to work with.

I didn’t take it as a shot at Strong. Remember, one of those last four years was last year, and TH was the coach. And what was left to work with is the core of a team that’s 5-1.

I know Burt's been hurt, but I'm surprised at how little Heard has been used - even when WR passes have been called (although Humphrey has done well with those also).

I've wondered that as well, and part of me thinks there may be issues with his rout running, because he's been in the games. He had some deep targets early and dropped a couple of contested throws, but it doesn't seem like he's been targeted much at all. Don't know if it's because he's not open, or that Sam just has the targets that he feels secure in finding, and he's locking more onto them.

For some reason it wasn't on my radar Burt had been out due to injury. He is the fastest WR we have and should see more reps going forward. His only flaw is dropping some balls he should catch...

I think Heard is a weapon. I would like to see him occasionally line up in the Wild Horn - run it, short / jump passes to TE or option / pitch out to a Flanker or slot player.

I suspect Heard may not be getting many reps at WR due to him not getting open when he was playing or it may just be the good play of CJ, LJH and Duverney.

He's a Horn, but I'll say this...that part of your post is why I'm fine if he doesn't get too many reps. Elite speed is only great if you don't have the flaw you mentioned.

Our Big 3 show good hands.
