The third-ranked Salado Eagles just defeated No. 8 San Angelo Grape Creek, 11-0, in 4 1/2 innings in the Class A state semifinals at Dell Diamond.
Salado's first baseman is a senior named Josh Coleman. Josh's dad, Clifford, played for Salado 22 years ago for the same coach, Melvin Bates. In 1986, the Eagles lost to Archer City, 14-9, in the semifinals. The Eagles only gave up one hit but walked 22.
Josh recently learned that he has been accepted to the United States Military Academy at West Point.
And he is my boss' grandson. I am very happy for this young man, AND his father, who feels that some demons were exorcised today!
Go Eagles ... win state!
