Help with DKR

Hey everyone,

A friend and I who go to a lot of games around the country felt like we kept going to games blindly and essentially ended up hoping for the best in terms of tailgates, seats, food options, etc. We started a project called VenueIQ.com so that fans could help each other out by giving good advice on what to do in and around the stadium for those fans who maybe have never been there before.

Now, I've never been to DKR and it is definitely on my list. But I wanted to see if any Longhorn fans would be interested in sharing their experiences so that I, and other fans, can have the best time possible when visiting the land of the Longhorns.

Any and all feedback is appreciated and I'm looking forward to next September for the Notre Dame game in Texas.

Thanks everyone!

I went to UT in the 70s and have been a season ticket holder for 33 years. Day games (for a 2:30-3:00 kick) you may want to get tickets on the west side lower deck to be out of the sun. The west upper deck isn't bad as the sun is behind you by halftime or 3rd qtr. North EZ is good if you like to watch the plays develop. The visitor area are on the west in the north and south corners. There are numerous tailgates around the stadium. Some folks will invite you to join in, some won't. There is a new tailgate area north-east of the stadium just down the hill from the LBJ Library. South of the stadium is on San Jacinto about 16th Street is Schultz's beer garden which has been there since 1866. It get's crowded, but its a landmark to checkout. If you like steak, the original Hoffbrau is a place to check out. Its been there on West 6th street since 1932 and run by the same family. It rustic not fancy, but the food is good. 6th Street, south of the stadium, in general is fun. For Mexican food, Matts El Rancho on Lamar is good. There are plenty of other places, BBQ - the Salt Lick (in Dripping Springs and in Round Rock), Rudy's is good and there are 3 locations south on 360 which is Capital of Texas Hwy, and north-west in the hill country, on Ranch Road 620 and out on Research, and The County Line at RR 2222 & 360. There's others also and they're all very good! Some other eatery places are The Shady Grove just south of the river on Barton Springs, Chuy's on Barton Springs, Threadgills (the chicken fried steak is great!) one on Riverside south of the river and one north of town on N Lamar. The Broken Spoke on S. Lamar has live entertainment, food, drinks, and dancing Saturdays until 2am, their chicken fried steak is excellent too!) The are plenty of bars and other places to listen to live music and eat or drink in the downtown area, just ask anyone around.

Hope that helps some....enjoy your stay in Austin!
