So I wanna become a marketable IT Guy. I have no certifications yet but wanna get started. I am planning on taking the A+ test sometime in the next few months. Any good books to recommend, I have seen a wide variety of them on amazon with mixed reviews? Thanks

certification will not make you very marketable on its own, certains ones, like a CLE or a good security TLA will help but for many years you will be a commodity guy. experiance is what pays

I've always wondered about certifications. I work in IT and have no certifications and majored in economics. But I do have experience.

Having a certification does not make you a better IT person. Having experience does. That being said, I've seen many job postings that require them, and several more that want you to have a degree in a computer related field. I'm not sure that I would want to work in an environment where how you look on paper is more important than how you perform. They have to use some criteria to find able candidates I suppose, and you can't get a job if an HR person tosses your résumé because you don't meet the requirements. The best situation is to work for a comapany that will pay for your certs. Then you'll have them if you need to look for a new job. This doesn't help if you are looking for a job to begin with.
