Help me get well, please!

I've been sick since christmas, and was sick for most of the fall. I seem to pick up some little bug, get sick, it starts going away, then I have a stressful day, and I get sick all over again. Usually it's just a sinus infection, but here lately I've picked up some kind of chest funk , and now I've got a sore throat.

Anyhow, I don't like doctors. I'm hoping someone can recommend a vitamin or an herb or something to boost my immune system. Any ideas?

I ate a lot of citrus over the winter and was not sick a day. You may want to try to get more vitamin C.

I feel your pain. I got really ill this past fall & have not been able to shake it.

I had a sore throat end of last week & woke up on Saturday wuth an awful cough & all kinds of congestion.

I've been staying really hydrated and have upped my vitimin C & B-12.

Hope you feel better soon!

Between the pollen count, and the smoke from Mexico, my airways have taken a beating.

You've had a chronic sinus infection for almost five months, possibly turning into bronchitis or something worse, and instead of seeing a doctor you're looking for an "herbal" remedy on hornfans.

Go to a specialist. In fact, there is surgery now which may help.

Let's see, Smurfette's "friend" was felt up when seeing a doctor about a sinus infection and now she's complaining about the sinus infection she's been dealing with for five months. Hmm...

After seeing a doctor and getting well, I'd recommend taking Wellness formula and Echinacea at the first sign of something being wrong in the future. This **** really works. You can get both at Whole Foods.

Last Thursday, I started feeling really crummy, much like I did right at the beginning of December. I didn't do anything but take OTC medicine in December and wound up with a nasty viral infection that took about 2 1/2 weeks to kick. My brother-in-law started getting the same thing I did about the same time and took both. He never got full-blown sick.

So, when I started feeling "da funk" again last Thursday evening, I started downing the pills -- three Wellness and one Echinacea every six hours (the bottles call for six Wellness if you're feeling bad/three for everyday use but I just couldn't bring myself to take that many) -- and I never felt completely sick. By Saturday evening, I was 100 percent.

See, the doctor thing would make too much sense. I have told her this in the past for other stuff. Try a witchdoctor or maybe a shamen.

sick this long?

You may not like doctors but this is common sense

go see one ASAP

Sounds like you also have mucous build up. Only prescribed medication will be able to thin it out so it drains. My wife's boss had the same thing. I don't care for doctors either but they are good for something.

well, seeing as one's going to ram a needle halfway through my tit on monday b/c of the last two trips to the doctor I made, NO, I will NOT go to the doctor.

I don't have a fever and I'm not hacking up green ****. Therefore, a trip to the doctor which requires me to take off work and have TWICE the stress when I get back is not worth it, seeing as the trigger for my never ending snots seems to be stress.

Also, I'm allergic to almost every kind of persciption med that doesn't have a mile long list of mide-effects, there's no point.

My immune system is down and I was hoping someone knew of a good vitamin or something.

Echinacea doesn't do dick... too many studies.

I understand your reluctance to see your doctor, but asking for medical advice here is perilous. Nevertheless, I'm going to give you some anyway.

Nobody can tell what you have from just a cursory description of the internet, and if you're constantly getting sick then perhaps it's better to put aside your aversion and talk to your doctor about it.

While we're on the topic of alternative meds, I don't put too much stock in Vitamin C for prevention and/or treatment of upper respiratory infections. Echinacea, on the other hand, actually appears to be somewhat effective. Here's a good summary from American Family Physician
.

You're a teacher. I'm sure the "stress" of missing a day of work won't be that bad so go to the Dr. I know how tough grading papers can be.

If over the counter meds will not cure the symptoms, then you may have to go to the doctor. You should treat the symptoms because you will eventually get an infection like bronchitis which can turn into pneumonia and even be fatal.
Then there is the cause. This should be addressed as well. You sound like you have allergies-you may need a prescription for allergy prevention, like Nasonex and/or Allegra, which can prevent seasonal allergies from turning into worse problems, like what you have. This has worked for me so far. If the allergies are worse, you may have to be tested for what you really are allergic to, and some things can be removed from your environment, like cat fur. Then there is the wonderful prospect of allergy shots, that may or may not help.
This is from my personal experience, and your symptoms and the cause of them may be totally different (medical disclaimer at no extra charge).
