It's probably too late, but rubbing baking soda on your bod in the shower will keep them from diggin in after you get back from the camping trip. Rub it and rinse it. Chiggers are usually found around livestock hosts. A baking soda bath wouldn't hurt.

I am highly allergic to chiggers, 8 days after I get them I get a severe allergic reaction. Sent me to the hospital twice.

The doc gave me some thing called Kwell cream (which is an insecticde cream with gamma benzene hexachloride) which I spread on them to kill the mites. That stuff is pretty potent and is only available by prescription.

You might try some of the head lice shampoos and use it like a body wash for where the chiggers are, to kill them.

OSU Buckeyes has a pretty good sheet on chiggers and how to treat them

Their advice about nailpolish is good, using New Skin would be a good idea too.
People in Ohio must be like aggys if they would try this

Old wives tale that the ******** are still alive in/on you and that you can kill them with nail polish, etc.

After a couple hours looking for a good place they inject their poision which dissolves your skin and makes a hard center funnel for them to suck up your skin juice like a slurpee through a straw.

On humans though, they rarely, if ever get a chance to stay for the meal because they get knocked off easily. It really wouldn't matter anyway because the itch has been delivered.

Nothing left to do but wait it out and try and to relieve the itch via potions. Also, the tube that is created in your skin, is what really causes the itch, so it is imperitive that you do not scratch them (scratching keeps that tube inflamed). With no scratching, your body should repair/absorb the tube in 3 days.

Just pour a little clorox in the bath water if you are not allergic to chlorine. That gets them every time, but sounds like the damage is done for the most part. Happy scratching

I got these little ******** on a mission trip to the Amazon region of Brazil. We were playing soccer in a little village litterally in the middle of nowhere, it had rained all day and the field was a swamp but we played anyway. They showed up last Thursday but I just got home yesterday. I bathed in lysol (sp?) and hydrogen peroxide (thats what the Dr. from Argentina told me to do) and got some sort of Rx cortizone cream....if ya'll have any other suggestions please add them esp. for the itch b/c it really sucks. If anyone has questions about my trip in general you can pm me.
Thanks again.
