HELP!! - High School Selection

I am moving back to Austin (finally) and I need information on choosing the right school district for us to move into. The reason I posted in the Other Sports is that my oldest daughter, who will be a high school Freshman next school year, is a competitive swimmer. Obviously a strong swimming is important to us, as is the overall education at the school. We plan on enrolling her in LongHorn Aquatics for club swimming, so proximity to Austin is important as well.

Any tips or adivice is very appreciated!!

Thanks,

I would agree with Bowie and Westlake, but not Plugerville. They finished last at their district meet and barely scored any points at all. The three Round Rock High Schools finsihed 1st-3rd at the district meet (1 - Westwood, 2 - McNeil & 3 - Round Rock). At the region meet Bowie finished 4th, Westwood 5th and Westlake 6th. McNeil finished 8th. The Plugerville girls didn't have a single qualifier for regionals. So, any of the RR schools, Bowie or Westlake would be good choices; all seem to have good programs and are pretty close to one another in terms of results.

I must be thinking of someone else, sorry.

I attended a number of my good friends daughters state meets over the past 2-3 years and I thought I saw Pleugerville.

Thanks a ton for the input. We were kinda leaning towards round rock anyway, so it sounds like that will be a great place to start looking (probably more in our range than westlake anyway). What area of Austin is Bowie in? When we lived there before, the swimmer in question was still in diapers, so school hadn't really become an issue.

Bowie is in SW Austin, way out south.
We had a niece in competitive swimming, and no extra-curricular activity that I know of requires harder work. I admire your daughter for sticking with this sport so far.

We will be in Austin in two weeks. Looking at several places in RR, and a couple in Bowie district. Any word on Lanier or LBJ? Saw a few places listed in those districts, just wondering.

I did email the coaches at the RR schools, and only have one reply. Looks like all 5 have swimming programs, so that's a plus, with two club options in RR.

Thanks for the input

I went to Lanier and know the area well. Avoid it if at all possible. Lanier, LBJ, and Reagan will require your child to be armed at all times.

Look into Nitro also and not just sign up with Longhorn Aquatics. Pains me to say it but LA has fallen off a cliff while Nitro is one of the tops in Texas.

Just saw this. Definitely think twice about Longhorn Aquatics. It's not what it used to be. Nitro is now the dominant team in Austin and the state. They just won TAGS pretty handily over the weekend. I don't know too much about how they operate though but if you're concerned about her getting lost in the crowd perhaps Nitro is not the best place and Longhorn would be better. Nitro succeeds based on sheer numbers. They've got something close to 1,000 kids on their team.
