Help! CPU Repair

My computer is on the blink and I need some advice on who to take it to for diagnostics and repair.
I've heard that some places offer a flat rate. True?

In case you were wondering, I cannot boot up in any other mode than safe mode without networking. Otherwise I get an error message on a blue screen that says "Driver IRQL not less or equal"

There used to be a place I went for parts in Austin that also did diagnostics, but they shut down. This should be fixable without needing to take it in, though.

It's a driver issue, so make sure all your drivers are up to date, especially if you recently switched to XP or added another piece of hardware. You can run verifier.exe from the Run function on the Start Menu, and that might help you help you figure out which driver is hosing you. Most of the time that error happens during computing, not when booting up, so that's kind of odd, but this isn't a major issue, most likely. The fact that it will boot up in Safe Mode is always a good sign.

Thanks Goofy.

I have not added any new hardware and my computer has always had XP, so I'm not sure what happened. That is why this is puzzling.

I will try to run verifier.exe tonight. Should that give me just the error or will it also provide a fix?

if your cpu is broken you will have to get another, not repair it.

It should tell you which driver is ******* up, and then from there you'll have to replace it, which should be pretty easy from the manufacturers website. Sometimes drivers/files just go bad. And sometimes Windows, being a crappy operating system, screws up the driver.

Do you have xp?

Boot in safe mode and do system restore, try different dates and boot normally afterwards.

Or pay me to fix it.
