Help coming soon

I did hear today that these 4 young men are coming to Texas early for next year and they are: David Ash, M.J. McFarland, Quandre Diggs and Jaxon Shipley. Not sure of anyone else but I heard about these 4 on the Pre-game TV show today. They will be here for Spring Training.

we need to get them in here ASAP for some mentoring by Greg Davis!

If a huge change in the coaching staff isn't made as soon as the aggy game is over, it won't make any difference who comes in or when they arrive. When was the last time you saw a true freshman as a "difference maker"? Some will contribute but none will cure what ails this team.

Ash will redshirt. Mcfarland will get a look at TE, hopefully. Biggest contribution Ship2 makes is as a punt returner if Mack trusts him enough. Not sure where Diggs even plays, so don't know what he does to help. M Brown could help if Mack will let a true freshman play and if we cure our oc and oline problems. Hate to a pessimist but 2011 may not be whole lot better than this year.

Mack has let tons of true freshmen play, Johnny Yuma, some of them quite a bit. So I'm not sure where you're coming from with that ridiculous comment.

BEVO..I didn't say they wouldn't play. I said "difference makers". Most the contributions have been on special teams until injuries forced Mack to play some the past few weeks. Davis has played a lot but do you see him as an impact player this year? Hicks had a nice game at NU and hasn't played much since. Wilson played a little against Rice and has disappeared. JJ played quite a bit until he got dinged but his most significant contribution was a penalty that kept an OU drive going.

My only point was to say that as good as the incoming freshman might be, they won't be what immediately fixes this year's problems. By 2012, maybe they make significant contributions.

McFarland, Diggs and Shipley could be play makers, which we need desperately.

By arriving in January, they up their odds greatly of getting some PT in the fall. The one we really need to progress quickly is McFarland.

If McFarland and Malcolm Brown are on the field at the same time, our offense becomes very dangerous. Play action will be fun to watch.

I think arriving early helps McFarland. He has a big upper body but needs work on his lower body strength and needs to learn to block. He has played receiver rather than TE in hs and he will need the transition time. It should help him.

Hope I'm wrong, but in watching some of McFarland's games this year, I'm not sure he's ready to be a difference maker just yet.

3 of those 4 listed can make a huge impact. They need to reopen the QB position and Ash is a kid that certainly could pressure coming in early. He looks very promising and if he didn't come in early most likely he would have no chance at even backing up next year.

Shipley and Diggs can make an immediate impact. One or both can grab the PR position which has to be open for grabs. Cu Brown is leaving and A Williams isn't a good PR. We get an effective PR out on the field and I think our field position dramatically changes and we don't fumble those punts either. Then of course both of those guys mention can make an impact in the passing game with the departure of Chiles and Kirkendoll.

Yuma, if you think true freshmen only get to play on special teams, you have not been paying attention.

Have you noticed who our leading receiver is this year? Benson was our starting running back from his first game. I believe Charles started, or got a lot of PT, his freshman year. Ever heard of Roy Williams...either started or got a LOT of PT as a freshman as did DJ at LB. I believe that Dockery started as a true freshman which is rare for an OL.

The only positions where it is RARE for true freshmen to start is OL and QB

I wouldn't argue that the freshmen would be the "only" thing that turns it around, but I'd say they're a big part of the turnaround.

We're going from a backfield with virtually no RBs capable of 20 carries per game, to one with a guy who is probably more capable than anyone else in the entire conference.

We're going from a group of TEs who can't block or catch, to a unit with a guy who is great at both.

We're going from an OL where 1 guy is listed as the backup at 3 spots, to an OL where 3 true freshman are not only capable of backing up positions, but maybe even starting.

We're adding 3 very good DBs to a thin secondary that has cost us at least 2 games this year.

This 2011 class is great for talent and depth at "need" positions. So they'll make an impact.

11...What about all those quality freshman we brought in this year? We suck this year. You would expect this is the time the frosh would help. We don't have a good running back, yet Shead redshirts. Hicks and Benson are supposed to be great lb's and Hicks makes an impact in one game(NU). The frosh DB's got on the field(other than special teams) only after others got hurt. Davis has been good and probably been better had we had any kind of offense. We have 3 other WR's that have done nothing. Out 3 DT's have been no-shows. This was a really good class and we got almost no help. I'll be shocked if a bunch of new guys walk in next year and are significant contributors from the start. MB gets eased in early. Cody, Shead, and Hills get first crack. Ship II the same. All the guys that are here will get in first but I think Ship II plays a lot by mid-season. You already have two of the new oline guys hurt. Any reason to believe they come in ready to play? Our hope for next year comes with new coaches and the guys we have on campus now.

Texas A&M has two true frosh starting in their OL. I didn't see them early in the year, but against Nebraska they were damned good. Take a good look at their OTs on Thursday. Maybe Westeman and Greenlea can be that far along come Next November.

Well, I would argue that we have no upperclassmen leadership this year, outside of Acho. The reason we have lost so many games is because there isn't a single Jr/Sr on the team that can take the bull by the horns and guide us in the right direction, whether it's mid-play or in the huddle or whatever.

Plus, the talent level just isn't that good, especially in the trenches.

"We don't have a good running back, yet Shead redshirts."
Brown is not Shead. Brown is quite possibly the second coming of AD. And while I understand they both came from smaller schools, there's no comparison between the difficulty levels of play.

"Hicks and Benson are supposed to be great lb's and Hicks makes an impact in one game(NU)."
First of all, LB has never been a "need" position in our defensive schemes, even going back to Bull Reese. Also, why would Hicks and Benson get much time above Acho and Robinson? It's like playing your wing men 40 minutes in a basketball game... you don't need the new guys if the starters are alright.

"The frosh DB's got on the field(other than special teams) only after others got hurt."
At least they got in... how many times did we use backups at DB last year?

"Davis has been good and probably been better had we had any kind of offense. We have 3 other WR's that have done nothing."
Are you placing blame on the WRs for this? Hell, the upperclassmen couldn't catch anything either. Davis has had just as many drops the last 3 games as every other receiver. This is an area that I've blamed Kennedy on for the last couple seasons: getting the ball to Shipley and ignoring the flaws of everyone else. I'll admit I'm not as hyped about incoming receivers.

"Our 3 DT's have been no-shows."
Doesn't that give incentive for the incoming guys to upstage them? It's almost like you want it to get worse with the incoming freshmen to prove that the 2010 class can still beat them out.

"Cody, Shead, and Hills get first crack."
Hell naw they don't. Especially Hills. CJ will continue to get his 11 carries per game, with 5 of them coming within the 3 yard line. By game 3, Brown will lead the team in carries.

"Ship II the same. All the guys that are here will get in first but I think Ship II plays a lot by mid-season."
He plays just as much as Davis did this year, and probably more with Chiles/Kirk gone, Goodwin dropping everything, and Williams continuing his no-show status.

"You already have two of the new oline guys hurt. Any reason to believe they come in ready to play?"
Maybe one of them. Plus, we've basically been playing next year's line in the last few games. So the incoming guys would serve mostly as a competitive force to push for playing time, although I highly doubt any of them start as all of the starting roles are filled now (and with Allen coming back).

There were quite a few frosh this year that they decided pretty early on that they were going to redshirt. Thus there is some real talent in that RS fRosh group as well and they will make an impact next year.

The biggest impacts next year I believe will be at the RB, DT, and DB positions. At RB we add Brown and Shead. At DT we add Bible, Cotton, and Russell. At DB we add Turner, Evans, and Jackson....heck Phillips, Byndom, and White really didn't get much PT but will make an impact with more.

cochamps, just noticed your sig. I say that line every time my boss can't get a hold of me...
