HELP! Beaumont?

Need to find some places to eat that are known to be good ahead of time. Bringing a large group to town for a soccer tournament and wanted to know if anyone had any suggestions. Probably need to seat about 30+ and would like to work out an arrangement for a very early Saturday Dinner.

Thinking something like Pasta and the only thing I saw was Carrabas.

Pasta in Beaumont? Better be friends with one of the Mandolas, Maidas or Fertittas (not Tillman).

My first suggestion is to call Connie Megas at The Schooner in Nederland. It's less than ten minutes down the road. Connie and his family have owned this seafood restaurant for over 50 years. He has private areas and dining rooms for your group. Ask him (or his sons) about pasta. It's on the menu, but Connie can cook about anything, so for a large party, I'm sure he would be pleased to do that. Not open on Sunday, but open for lunch and dinner six days a week.

Floyds Seafood is on I-10 and good. Floyd Landry is the son of Don, who started Don's and Landry's in South Louisiana. Unfortunately, Floyd has no private dining room and it's loud.

Dippity's in Lumberton for hamburgers. About ten miles north on 96. Great onion rings.

Novrozsky's has several locations, but the one in Nederland has a private room for groups. Not great, but not bad; hamburgers, chicken fried steak, etc.

Do not go balistic at this next one. Golden Corral in Beaumont is one of two experimental units in the country with a new design, which has been a huge success. I don't eat at Golden Corral, but was taken there and it was good. It's $10.50 for all you can eat, including salad bar, Mexican buffet, Italian buffet, seafood buffet, Asian buffet, beef, chicken, & pork buffet. Again no private dining area.

Carraba's & Olive Garden are on freeway, as is Cheddars.

Where is your tournament and where will you be staying?

I had a vendor take our group to a country club in Beaumont for a business lunch, and it was pretty good. I don't know if it's available for non-members, though.

Carabba's/Olive Garden aren't exactly close to the soccer fields, if you are trying for nearby. That said, the Carabba's is excellent, and that is one of the three or so places I end up eating when I am in town.

There's also a Pappadeaux, but that's even further away than the Carabba's.

Thanks all- part of the problem is bing able to accomodate the 40 or so kids and parents and not wait 2 hours to get your food. I am going to try Joe's Pizza and Pasta Italian Kitchen, negotiated a lunch special deal for the players at dinner and their online reviews were not bad. the owner was certainly italian and I can always use my Carraba's contacts if need be. I will check it out first of course.

Another place we thought about was Gino's their menu wasn't too bad either. as we want pasta for the fuel aspects of peak soccer performance

New York Pizza & Pasta (Calder location) has a patio. It might be tight, but you could fit 30 or so on it. Menu-wise, it would be perfect. Easily accessible from the Soccer Fields.

Joe's Pizza & Pasta is across from the Mall...technically a little closer to the fields. A very similar menue to New York, and a little bigger place.

I'd check both of those. Subject to space availability, you'll be VERY pleased with the food at either.

And let me contradict Sabre's post a bit.....over the past couple of years, we've had some EXCELLENT pasta places open up:

New York Pizza & Pasta (2 locations)
Frankie's Italian Grill
Joe's Pizza & Pasta
Gino's Pizza & Pasta

Each of these is small, locally owned, and, actually, very damn good!
