Hecka, Hella

What is up with these words? I am hearing the teens and twenties using Hella as an adverb as in "hella cool." And the younger kids using hecka as the cleaner version. Where did these words come from?

Personally, I like hella. I don't use it as often as I used to, but I'll throw it out there every now and then for old times sake.

it's a lot older than that. I think it started out on the West Coast. Souls of Mischief (Bay Area rap group) say it quite a bit on their first album, which was released in 1993 ('93 til Infinity). That was my sophomore year in college, and we used to say it a lot and get weird looks. Now, I want to choke someone when I hear them say it.
