HDTV question

to anyone who has subscribed to Time Warner for HDTV.. .do they actually charge you the $49 for "installation"?? what the hell.. I thought they just get you a new set top box, in which case all you do is plug in the wires....

also.. is there any difference in plugging in the HD converter versus the digital cable box? I've got the audio/video cables running through there now for my surround sound system/dvd etc...

You trade in your old digital box for the HD box. No, they didn't charge me anything for installation.

They didn't charge me but I picked up the HDTV DVR box so they didn't come out to my house.

It shouldn't be any different--look at the time warner site and it should have a picture of the back of the HD box so you can make sure. The DVI connection won't work even though there is a dvi connection port.

The DVI does work on some boxes (3250 HD at least), but I've heard it's not reliable. I wouldn't recommend screwing with it.

Use the component video and be happy.

9497 - How does that box work, I am currently still using an HD Box and a DVR box on the same TV, is it worth the upgrade or are there problems. Also I like being able to split the screen and use both boxes for diff programming.

thanks for the info guys... I'll be calling to get my HD box today... I should have my tv on Friday!!

I have the dual purpose box. I have traded in several times because they didn't work at first (always the DVR). I have finally found one that has worked for over three months now.

JC--I've been really happy with the HD DVR box. I've had it since early April and haven't had any problems. There is a bit of a delay when I try to do the 6 second rewind when watching an HD program but so far so good. I guess you are essentially paying an additional $7 a month to have 2 boxes hooked up to the same tv so the question is if the convenience of split screen (assuming you can't do the same with just one box and your tv) is worth $7. That is probably a great feature during football season. The HD DVR is the same price as a regular dvr ($7 for the box and $9 for the dvr, I think).
