HDTV Conversion ?

I have been investigating making the move to Direct TV HDTV. I am a current DirectTV customer (NFL Sunday ticket). Also have an HDTV capable TV. I see that most of the programs are deliverd in 720p, but my TV only supports 1080i, 480p and 480i. The Best Buy dude says it's no problem, that the TV will make the conversion from 720p into a format that it can display in HD. That doesn't sound right to me.

Comments? Suggestions? SOL?

My HDTV is native 1080i and it converts FOX's 720p signal just fine.

All HDTV's support standard definition signals (480p and 480i).
