We just got our new TV and now we need to buy an HDTV antenna for our local channels. What kind of antenna should we get? I know it has to do with distance from the signal but how do I find that out?
Also, are indoor antennas acceptable or is that distance related as well?
Those web-sites they have listed are great. If you are looking for something to go in your attic I would recommend going to Bantam Electronics and getting a Winegard antenna. That is what we use at work an our installers recommend. They are on Mchale crt off of Burnet rd.
I gather from the above posts that an internal TV tuner, a video card with TV-out, and an HDTV antenna on a PC create local HDTV reception on a quality monitor. I asked a guy at a computer store and he said I would need cable TV. I was correct and he was wrong, right?
Well you are off to a good start. Your TV tuner would need to be an HD-Tuner, not just a TV tuner, as far as an antenna goes it is all about location on what type of antenna you will need. As far as a monitor you will need something that will handle a progressive scan hopefully with 1280x768 resolution. You can either get HD localy over the air or by using Time Warners HD box. All your locals are now up and running thanks to TW and KXAN reaching an agreement.
WB, you have to have a HDTV capable video capture card. Just any old one will not do. The card acts as tuner and it is what you hook up the antenna to in order to get the over the air HDTV signals. Said card will have a component or DVI out that hooks into your TV.
