serious audio/video in sync problems. My manual lists this in the trouble shooting section. Switching the channels back in forth, turning the receiver on/off, and flipping/pausing the DVR do not work. I have to reset the system everytime. So, far I have to reset it everyday.

HELP.....

thinking of hooking up the cheaper green, blue, red cables......sigh.....

Can't pinpoint the problem, but I watched a movie on HBO this weekend and it had serious audio/video in sync problems.......

It is a known issue in HDMI specification called "lip-sync', they didn't fix it until HDMI 1.3 but both of your components need to have 1.3 to make use of it.
It caused by audio and video go to different path of processing with different delays but without a way to adjust it. I guessed to put your directtv box output to a receiver like device then the output of receiver to a TV. Audio come from your home theater speakers...
You can hook your directtv hdmi output directly to an input of tv and use tv for both audio and video to see if it goes away.

thanks viethorn. The problem is that I have my home theatre system in my basement. The directv receiver is HD but no DVR. My new HD-DVR is actually a HR-21. I'm going off my TV speakers with the HD-DVR. It works fine after I reset it every morning, but by the evening it's unwatchable.

Thinking of moving the DVR to the basement. Or, just plug in the GBR cables, how bad can they really be.......
