HD DLP Lamps

I have a Mitsubishi 52" HD DLP that I have had for 2 yrs 3 mos. and I think my first lamp has gone out. I turned it on awhile ago and after the picture was on for couple of minutes the screen went black and the red lamp light illuminated.

I've reset, rebooted and nothing has changed. Looks like I have the dreaded lamp gone out disease. Should I just call a repair guy to come out and diagnose and go from there, or is there a standard bulb that I could just order online, hope that I get the correct one and then call the repair guy?

When i google, it appears there's just one part number given:The Link

Any advice on best way to do this? And, please no "it's so easy you can do it yourself!"

go to mitsubishi website and order a new lamp. You will also be able to download the manual for your model.

It takes all of 3 minutes to install a new lamp. No need to call out a service guy.

Okay I found a Users Manual and it explains how to replace the lamp. Luke, I appreciate your confidence in my mechanical abilities but if it can be screwed up I can screw it up.

Looks like though if I order the lamp then if I want to pay a tv guy for a house call to do it it would be worth it to me. That would be under $100.

Thanks for the info.

Appendix H: Lamp Cartridge Replacement, continued
1. Turn TV power off and allow the lamp to cool at least one hour before proceeding.
2. After the lamp has cooled, remove the plastic air exhaust grille/cover by removing two screws with a #2 (large) Phillips screwdriver. See figure 1.
3. With a large flat-blade screwdriver, loosen the three shiny screws securing the lamp cartridge until they disengage from the mating threads. These are captive screws and cannot be separated from the lamp cartridge.
4. Fully open up the bag supplied with the replacement lamp and set the opened bag aside. If no bag was supplied, use any available small paper bag.
5. Grasp the wire handle of the lamp cartridge and pull the old cartridge straight out towards you. See figures 2 and 3. Note the orientation of the cartridge.
CAUTION: Do not tilt or rotate the cartridge, as small glass fragments may fall out.
6. Without tilting or putting down the lamp cartridge, insert it into the opened bag. Close the bag while being careful that no glass particles fall out.
7. Do not touch the glass parts of the new lamp cartridge. Insert the new cartridge into the TV in the same orientation as the old cartridge. Push on the cartridge housing until it is fully seated.
8. With either your fingers or the screwdriver, gently tighten the three screws. If using a screwdriver, use only two fingers for final tightening. AVOID OVERTIGHTENING!
9. Replace the plastic grille/cover and retaining screws.
10. WASH YOUR HANDS THOROUGHLY, AS THIS LAMP CONTAINS MERCURY.
11. Contact your local authorities or the Electronic Industries Alliance atThe Link for lamp-disposal or recycling instructions. Do not dispose of the old lamp with common trash.
12. Reset the Lamp Reminder from the TV Setup menu as follows:
a. Press TV MENU to open the Setup menu.
b. Move the highlight to Lamp Reminder.
c. Press ENTER twice.

90 and c'mon, look at my post count. You can trust me!!! How can you not with my dedication and high post count.

I'm now fired, huh?!

Should be info on the back of your TV about the part and should basically pull out. Ours went out on Tuesday night (Samsung). A local place was selling a bulb for 300. Ordered one online for 109 + 20 for 2 day shipping. Honestly it's not hard. The bulb is sitting on a table waiting for the replacement. Just a few screws, even a girl could do it

Oh gosh. You've bullied (cowed?) me into it. I ordered one for $115 (free shipping) - should be here any minute. But, going ahead and taking the old one out is a good idea.

100p, PM me if interested - Just Kidding!

HELP! So, I've removed the old lamp - housing and all - but there's no instructions on how to remove the lamp from the housing...was I supposed to have ordered a housing too and just replaced the entire thing???

Back of the lamp is connect to some cable but the housing covers it and there doesn't seem a way to pry the bulb outta there. Yikes.

All is right in the 69 household - Casey did not strikeout.

Thanks to my brilliant new son-in-law he figured out how to get the lamp out of the cartridge assembly. Yippee!

Thanks to words of encouragement from Hornfans and beers are on me.

Can I still watch the video with you? You only have to pay me 10 bucks and I will bring my own bbq.

I have a Hitachi 51" that I bought October '02. It's coming up on 6.5 years old and the bulbs have never been replaced. How much longer should I expect this TV to last?

tThat's what i'm so surprised at, we watch tons of TV (as embarrassing as it is to admit). Maybe Hitachi just makes a good product. I'm so ready for it to go out so I can get rid of that behemoth and buy a flatscreen.

I had a 2000 50" Mitsubishi that went out for the first time this last year...lamp plus some part on the circuit board. Repair guy said that they probably don't even keep parts for sets that old - which yours is right there close. You might to reach in there and jerk something loose.

For 21.59 I will reach in there and pull something loose for you. If you throw in some BBQ I will guarantee the tv will not ever work again.
