HAWAII RAINBOW WAHINI
Hawaii holds an 1-0 edge on the Horns, taking a 78-74 win on November 28, 1999 at home. The teams will square off just one day short of the 12th anniversary of that game. Hawaii’s Rainbow Wahine on a three game losing streak entering this tournament. They are 1-3 for the season. Dana Takahara-Dias is starting her third season with Hawaii. She is first former Rainbow Wahine to return to be the head coach of the team.
Three players are averaging double figures for the Rainbow Wahine. Starters Kamilah Jackson (# 5, 5-11 Soph. F) average 15.5 ppg, Breanna Arbuckle (#12, 6-0 Sr. G) adds 10.8 ppg while Kanisha Bello (# 15, 5-8 Soph. G) contributes 10.0 ppg. No one else is averaging over 5 ppg. Jackson (21-41, 51.2%), Rebecca Dew (# 22, 6-4 Sr. C, 8-14, 57.1%) and Courtney Gaddis (# 31, 5-11 Sr. G, 7-14, 50%) are all hitting over 50 from the field. Jackson, Arbuckle and Bello have taken the majority of shots with all taking over 30 FGA. Alissa Campanero (# 14, 5-3, Fr. PG,3-13, 23.1%) and Bello (4-12, 33.3%) are the main threats to launch from BTA with Gaddis (4-7, 57.1%) the most accurate. The Rainbow Wahini have done an excellent job of getting to the FT line, averaging 73% from there. They are getting 25 FTA per game, making 18. That’s about a third of their scoring. Jackson (20-27, 74.1%), Arbuckle (14-23, 60.9%) and Bello (12-14, 85.7%) have the best at getting to the FT line.
Jackson leads Hawaii in rebounding with 10 rpg to give the Rainbow Wahine their only players averaging a double double. Arbuckle adds 5.8 rpg. The other seven average between 1.5 and 2.8 rpg. Campanero leads the team with 3.3 assists per game. Arbuckle (2.3 apg) and Jackson (1.8 apg) are second and third, respectively. Hawaii is not a big shot blocking team with only 15 blocks total for the season. But they don’t get their shots blocks much either, only having had five blocked in four games. Arbuckle with seven blocks tops Hawaii in that category. Arbuckle and Bello with 3 steals each and Haydel and Jackson with 2 steals each top the Rainbow Wahine.
Hawaii has fifteen players on the roster but due to various reasons, only nine have played this season. Campanero joins Jackson, Arbuckle, and Bello starters for all four games to date. Sydney Haydel (# 2, 5-8 Soph. G) has started three of four games, including the last one. Shawna-Lei Kuehu (#20, 5-10 Soph. G) has played in the last two games as she recovers from injuries. She is projected to be a starter as she is able to play more minutes. Gladdis and Dew are the other players besides the starters who have played in all four games. Jasmine Ray (# 10, 5-6 Soph. PG) has played in three of the four games. Campanero leads in minutes per game at 35.5 mpg. Jackson is averaging 34.0 ppg. Arbuckle and Bello average over 31 mpg while fifth starter Haydel is at 25.3 mpg. Except for Ray, all others average over 13 mpg. With nine players available, everyone is playing, although the starters are getting a lot of minutes.
Projected starting lineups are based on the last game played before the start of this tournament. Texas has started the same lineup the first three games while Hawaii has had one spot with a couple of people rotating in it.

Texas Hawaii
Ashley (6-4) Arbuckle (6-0)
Cokie (6-4) Jackson (5-11)
Yvonne (5-7) Haydel (5-8)
Ashleigh (5-8) Campanero (5-3)
Chassidy (5-10) Bello (5-8) [/pre]
Seems pretty simple: shut down Jackson and you stop Hawaii. She leads the Rainbow Wahine is FGs, FTs, rebounding and scoring. However, the Horns will be aware of Hawaii’s outside shooting, especially from Gaddis, Campanero and Bello. Inside, only Dew has the size to match Texas. Texas will work on getting their inside game going but should be able to get open looks from outside if Hawaii collapses to help their posts.

This should be an easy win for the Horns. The thing will be not to let it become a trap game after playing two tough games in the two days before this one. Horns hold an advantage in almost every category except for 3pt shooting and FTs. The Rainbow Wahine are better from behind the arc going into this tournament and have done a better job getting to the FT line and converting once there. Horns will need to defend without sending them to the FT line, where the Rainbow Wahine are getting a third of their points. Horns should be able to get their posts a lot of work offensively as well as rebounding strongly.
