A few days ago, I was at a stoplight and noticed my A/C getting hot and nasty. My battery warning light came on, and once I started accelerating, my car started overheating FAST. I pulled into a parking lot, let it cool down for about 15 minutes, checked under the hood, and drove home. It became very overheated again, even with the A/C off, but luckily my engine didn't seize up.
After further inspection under the hood, I noticed that the belt connected to the pulleys on the ends of the motor and alternator was not moving (with car on). The other belt was moving fine, but the belt connected to the alternator wouldn't budge. I'm guessing that either the belt is too loose or torn at some point, or my alternator is toast. Anyone have any theories as to the cause of the problem?
Does anybody know any good mechanics in Austin? I'm near campus. Any ideas would be a huge help. Unfortunately, there are many people who enjoy ripping off fools like me in the business. I would like to avoid that at all costs. Thanks.
