Has Texas peaked too soon?

Just a nagging question that grows louder with each jaw-dropping victory.

This isn't the most talented Texas team I've seen, but it is the toughest, and I don't think I've ever seen a UT squad play better ball at this point in the season than this one.

Thoughts? Concerns? Admonitions? Do share.

I don't think so. I wouldn't be surprised to see an early exit in the Big 12 tourney though. For whatever reason, Texas seems to underperform in that tourney.

This team is definately tough. I am not ready to say they are tougher than the final four squad, but they are sure beginning to show similarities to that team. Winning on the road like we have and beating 3 of the top 7 teams in the country has proven that...

If we were pre-assigned a certain number of losses per year then maybe we should worry that we're using up our wins now, but that's not how it works. Playing well now won't make us worse later, it won't make us "more due" for a loss later, or anything like that. It'd be like getting ahead early in the 2nd half of a game and shooting real well and then saying "Uh oh, we're making too many shots too early, we might miss a lot of them late in thegame."

Statalyzer, per usual, nailed it. They are basketball players who are driven to win. Our concerns over "odds" or luck have no impact on the outcome. They are having fun and as long as that continues I think the W's will come more often than not.

The only real concern I have is FREE-THROW shooting. GOOD GOD, down the stretch in a tough close game that may come back to bite us..

Defense has been awesome lately, in a close game their free throw shooting could hurt them big time though.

We could conceivably get a lot better...free throw shooting can be cyclical and some of our guys who are struggling at the line should absolutely improve in the next few weeks.

OTOH, I wouldn't say team defense is cyclical. If you're good as a team, that should remain the case as long as we stay healthy.

I still think we're pretty beatable on a poor shooting night against a good team, but overall we may not have reached the peak just yet.

I dont know if Great D peaks or not. It sure is great right now though.
On Offense we are not shooting the lights out.

But even if Defense did come and go, it wouldn't be more likely to go sour one night just because it came to play the previous game or previous few games.

Our offensive numbers havnt changed much from earlier in the year. During our winning streak we have maybe 1 or 2 of our main weapons in DJ, AJ, or James have good games along with a good game from Conner or Mason. BUT if our big 3 all come out to play some O at the same time...SCARY. Add this to the recent development of depth and the the lights out D they are playing and i dont see how they can lose.

The scary thing is I don't think we've peaked yet, at least defensively.

Wangmene just now started playing really productive minutes for us. Connor will eventually stop getting into foul trouble. We can still improve on FT shooting.

DJDJAJGJJMCA(J)AW(J)DP(J)CC(J),

Your sig is hilarious. AJ looks at the ref like he wants a technical foul called.

So for now, everything is looking good. Well, save for the atrocious free throw shooting, and we've decided that is "cyclical".

I wouldn't say peak quite yet. I still have yet to see perfect offense, perfect defense, and perfect free throw shooting combined all in one game. Playing some of the best ball they have played collectively this entire season yes. This team can still be better and when they do peak, Final Four here we come!!
