Harsin Rumors

So... I have seen a few places that mention Harsin being Considered for a HC position. Does anyone really think it would be a bad thing. I kind of anticipated his departure sooner than later. After all he was brought in on a 1 year contract and then it was renewed. If Harsin was to bolt, I think Major has enough smarts and has seen the Harsin system enough to run with it.

I believe he is interviewing for the Arkansas state job so technically its not a rumor.

Two threads were killed about this in "On The Field" today. I have no idea why, since it's being reported by legit sources.

I hope he gets the job and takes Major with him as OC.

Major has been mentioned as a possible candidate for a head
coaching position himself in his native state.

Yes, it is considered a rumor. It has been tweeted by one reporter and then reported on in a couple of other places that he tweeted it. His tweet was that he "heard" that Harsin was "expected" to interview.

Regardless of whether he does or not, that tweet was simply an un-researched and unsubstantiated tweet that is the definition of a rumor.

Remember, Mack is a CEO; that means he is COMPLETELY dependent on his coordinators to provide, implement and manage a scheme and a game plan. He just takes notes, claps and gets mad at the refs. Otherwise he's a press conference manager and a glad-hander with the people that collect money from us. I hope Major can seamlessly take over if Harsin moves on but Harsin was hyped and you know what has happened. It's a resume stop.

Horn - I looked forward to his trickeration, and the only one I saw was the play in the wishbone to honor DKR. Which worked pretty well. Doesn't matter though, because he is gone. So we've had a big turnover of assistants after a terrible season. Do we really think another group of assistants will be better? Damn, what they have in common is the same CEO. Whatever happened to "the buck stops here?" Apparently that doesn't apply to the UT football program.

Before Harsin came here, in the off-season Mack took the staff to visit Boise St. to learn some of their offense. Instead of doing so again, Mack went one further and got his staff up-close and familiar with the Boise St. offense.

Now Harsin exits, and Major takes over with a first-hand, very detailed, working knowledge of the Boise St. offense. It's a win-win. Harsin moved on to become a HC, and Major got to expand his offensive knowledge before taking over. Both were likely part of Mack's plan all along knowing Harsin would leave within 3 years, and Major was to be his next OC. Probably even told Major before this season to hang in there and he was next in line. Plan sounds great to me, should pay off for both Major and Horn's offense for years to come.

It's likely that Mack's final part of the plan is for Major to succeed as OC and play-caller, Mack to retire on his own terms within the next 5 years, and Major to then assume the reigns as HC. Not sure if that one will pan out or not, but pretty sure that's what both Mack and Major are thinking for the future post-Mack.

Nice theory Brad... the true question to this riddle is... Will Applewhite be around long enough before the Coaching Vultures swoop in and take in to another coaching vacancy? It would be great to see a Longhorn alum take over the program but only time will tell. I have to agree with part of your theory because if I am not mistaken, Harsin came in on a 1 year contract.
