Harsin recruits

Who, if any, of our recruits will follow Harsin to Ark. State?

I mean like Brewer followed him here.

I guess that's a bit hard to say... Arkansas ST VS Texas. I mean... come on. How many recruits would pass up a tier 1 university over a well lets be honest. A much lower grade football school in a sub par conference.

If anything, the recruits just bail ship and find another school. I can't see any recruits following Harsin to Arkansas State. Unless they can't qualify academically at any other University.

I'm most curious about Tyrone Swoopes. Given the soon-to-be logjam at the Texas QB position and the dumpster fire that is engulfing Mack, would Swoopes be better off following Harsin to Arkie State where he can be coached up, or sticking with and enrolling at Texas where he is more likely to warm the pine?

Consider that Tony Romo played at Eastern Illinois and Colin Kaepernick played at Nevada.

Tru Dat Burnt O.... Time will sort all this madness out. The coaching carousel has gotten out of hand these days. It seams that a tenured coach is one that can survive 3 years at a university. Swopes would get good coaching under Applewhite and at this point in the game... I think the QB Spot is wide open. Would Brewer transfer? Well.... he would still have 4 years of eligibility... the question is... would Harsin still be head coach at Arkie St in 4 years.

Brewer wouldn't have 4 years of eligibility if he transferred. He already had a redshirt. He'd have to sit another season since they're FBS.

That said, he might take that risk if he's not going to play here.

How good is Overstreet???

I've seen Jerrod Heard play a few times now & IMO he is destined to be a superstar. If I had to pick one recruit that we keep for sure - it would be JH.

Having said that, Ash was average this year which was LIGHTYEARS better than last year. If he were to improve the same amount again, he would be pretty damn good next year.

Would not run down Arkie St. They beat Louisana Laf.50-27 Lou. Laf. beat Arkansas and played other powerhouses close. I doubt if Mack would want to play them.

Sorry, USL didn't play Arkansas, but they did lose to Arkansas State. They also beat Northeast Lousiana, who beat the Hogs.

I agree Texdoc but there are other QBs out there that have been able to play at a high level right away. Maybe we should find one of those guys and start him?

It's kind of a stretch to say that guys have played that well "right away." Guys like Manziel and Colt McCoy (who actually regressed from his freshman to sophomore year) aren't growing like weeds.

Heard is an interesting case. He has VERY similar tools to what guys like Darron Thomas had at Oregon. Strong arm, accurate, can run, just wins. I wouldn't say he's like VY because he just doesn't have the look or swagger of Vince, but he's definitely a more polished QB than Swoopes. If he decommits, I'd be quite upset.

I honestly think a lot of offensive skill position guys (Hicks, RSJ, etc.) were turned off by the early commitment of Swoopes. People had been anointing him the next VY since he was in the 4th grade with very little substance to show for it other than "he's tall" and "he likes to run."

How / why would the early commitment of a QB (Swoopes) turn off players of an entirely different position??
