Hardware Problem

New computer has 2 drive bays. 1 CD-R and 1 DVD-R. I have a DVD in the bay but it won't eject. I tried sticking a paperclip in the little hole below the bay, but to no avail. I can access the files on the DVD, it spins and is working...except for the fact that I can't get the sumbitch open.

Idea?

Apparently, you have to curse excessively, through **** across the room, knock your beer over, scream some more, get another beer, all while restarting the sumbitch about 20 times. Then, go upstairs to get some stuff to clean up the mess you made and apologize to your kids for the nasty language you are using. Drink about 5-8 more beers, take your drunk *** to bed about 2am. Wake up late for work with a bit of a hangover, mix a bloody mary to smooth off the edges, go downstairs and the sumbitch DVD drawer will be open.

Weird that the paperclip eject will not work since that's completely mechanical and will work even if the electronics on the drive are hosed. I would try rebooting. Some process is probably using the drive and won't let it eject. If that doesn't work, try powering down and trying the paperclip eject again (while no power is going to the drive).

Ah... didn't see that you had already got it opened.

I may have to start doing that before going to bed nightly. I woke up this morning to a crashed system.

Hopefully I can get to the data on the main hard drive and transfer it off. Even more hopefully is that the other hard drive is not toast, with my backups.

From now on it is cussing and drinking before bed every night!
