Haircuts in Austin

I'm going to look like a porcupine with uneven hair for the next few weeks because of a bad haircut. Anybody got any recommendations? What do you usually pay for a men's haircut?

My friend owns a salon on S 1st street. All the people she has working for her are very very good & you do get what u pay for, but I think it is about $25 for a mens cut.
you can of course go the cheap route & pay $10 & get a buzz cut.

it depends....

if you are looking for a barber shop, go to the Woo. If you have scally hair, you should pay no more than $10 for a haircut.

if you have slightly more style, and need more than a high and tight haircut, go to Victor's. He's off of Guadalupe and 35th-ish. It's next to the Washateria across from Mangia. I pay $22, which includes tip. I've been going there for 5 years.

They have porn at the Woo? Geez, why am I always the last to find out about these things? I remember James would always show me pics of his adopted Korean daughter. I think he was waiting for me to ask her out or something. Which would've been okay if she wasn't in her pre-teens!

The Sportsman, off of 38th, behind Jefferson Square. Dead animals on the wall. Barbers. A guy who talks through a voice modulator because of throat cancer (Bob, my barber). Customer appreciation days that involve fish frys, tamales, and beer. $12 cut, I give 'em $15.

If you are a man getting his haircut at any place with "Salon" in the name, you oughta throw out your man card along with your back issues of Glamour.

I went to Mane express at Dobie (in between classes), and use a credit card if you don't want Big Gay Al to cut you hair, he is cash only.

Hancock Barbers by the Red River HEB. It's in the breezeway. 3 guys who've been cutting hair since WWII and one younger guy who also does a really good job. $12 plus tip.

I quit going to Sportsman when Mike Ivey retired to his pecan farm in San Saba and the new owner, Bill Black, came in and dusted off the damn dead animals and hired a woman. The world ended that day.

Agreed as to the decline caused by the Ivey/Black shift. Black even got rid of the Playboys. THAT pissed me off. Not that I needed them or looked at them that much, it just comforted me to know that they were there. And the presence of a woman definitely detracts.

However, I can call Bob, tell him that I'll be able to make it right around closing time. He'll let me in to get a cut after hours. We drink beer and tell fishing lies while he cuts my hair. That's gotta count for something.

James is the ****...I sure do miss getting my mop chopped at the woo, and yes, porn is available...just ask after the movie thats on is over and make sure no chicks are around...which usually isnt a problem.
