Yous should change your title to "******* Nutcase Shoots up N. Illinois Univ. classroom"

Because anyone that does that is certainly not a man.

does anyone know what the schools policy is re students and teachers who are licensed to carry a concealed handgun? such permit holders can't be everywhere on campus, but they would be a good addition to official campus security. and public awareness that permit holders are allowed on campus could be a good deterent all by itself.

Guns aren't allowed on campus unless you are a cop, period.

It is like that at all campuses in Texas. I have a LtC, but the fartherst my gun can go on campus is the glove box of my truck in the parking lot.

I have always wondered that myself. I own guns and thoughts to harm myself or others have never come to me. I have thought of my ability to defend myself, but the thought of being the aggressor have never crossed my mind.

I just know that gun control is not the answer. Our borders are too big to eliminate guns from society. If we were a European country (ie, smaller than Texas), we could have gun control.

I knew the blood would not be dry before someone claimed we would all be safe if everyone was carrying a gun.
There would just be far more individual incidents where one person gets mad at the other and blows him away, and accidental shootings.

all? all?!? i thought it would be good enuff to be safer, but you want us all to be safe. well, that ain't going to happen. the violence in our gun free zones is proof of that.

you posted, "No it is the price of having poor mental health care and awareness. "
appsarently this murderer was taking meds but then went off them.
How could anyyone force him to keep taking them if in fact anyone even knew he had stopped . OR should he have been locked up?
which I feel sure you would not be in favor of doing

If he was on meds and it was properly documented, he should not have been able to purchase a firearm. If that truly is the case, then the blood is not only on the killer's hands, but the state of Illinois as well.

remember the va tech murderer was on meds as well and bought a gun 10 days before.
I would guess each state has its' own gun laws.
BUT if someone being on anti depressant meds precludes someone buying a gun The ACLU would likely get involved wouldn't you think?

I'm rusty on my Texas gun laws, but aren't people who need help in that area restricted from purchasing guns?

The ACLU could try, but after these incidents, it would be hard to make a strong case.

"Being on medication does not mean the person is receiving adequate treatment or care. "

Of cpurse you are correct. It also could mean that the person is receiving good care. Unless you think that no one receives it?

BUT even under the best care is there anyway to FORCE the person to take meds?

So IN this case from what we know and in the case of the VaTech murderer it was when the murderers voluntarily went off their meds that they then killed.
Unless you think it is ok to put someone away or it is ok to force meds down someone throat these incidences can and will happen again.
How much easier it would be if we could identify with goode certainty those who will kill if they quit taking their meds. Those people we could force to take them
all others could still have their rights as humans

I think I remember you have had experience with people needing mental health care and I know have closer views on this. I wish there were a fool proof way to prevent this
