Guitar for 5 year-old?

My son is turning 5 at the end of the month and he is ALWAYS playing air guitar or pretend guitar on anything he can get his hands on. Any recommendations for a "real" guitar that he can play? 1/2 size? 3/4 size? I don't play any instruments, so don't have a clue. Don't want to spend a crazy amount of money, but don't want a Fisher Price plastic one either.

Thanks in advance.

Just a comment. I think the thought of your 5 year old learning to wail on the guitar is awesome.

Several years ago Lostboy1 wanted to learn guitar, about age 9 or 10. We found a nice little deal at a local music store - a small amp and a downsized guitar for around $100. It was just a smaller size for young kids, but a real guitar none-the-less. Was a worthwhile investment as about 2 years later the interest waned. Check local music stores, Great Southern Music here in west Hou.

I bought one as described above by lostman at Guitar Center for my son about 3 years ago. He currently takes piano lessons and the guitar is just to beat on and have fun. He is 9 now.

I bought my 4 year old one of those 20 buck acoustic jobbies from Wal Mart for Christmas. I know it's crap, and I know he's not going to teach himself, but I just wanted him to experiment around with it and see if he starts to like it. Just a few weeks ago he began adding lyrics to his strummings. I'm trying to catch him singing "We will rock you" with it on video.

If he's still goofing around with it when he's six, I'll get him in lessons.
