seriously I don't link this to BO but to the attitude that the givernment workers at all levels seem to have. It is not their money so spend it however they want.
That people in government agencies at high levels would think it is ok to spend like this at any time let alone during our current situation shows we need to do some serious house cleaning, Firing.

No this isn't BO's direct fault but he surely isn't helping with his lavish spending on trips and family vacations, he isn't setting a good leadership example and he could.

BI, I'm not arguing all of your points, but wasn't the "cash plane" story put to rest a few months ago? Without googling it, I think I remember reading that the accounting snafu was rectified, be it on the up-and-up or not, your choice.

That is the bottom line. Just shrink the government. Period. Will you still have waste and scandals? Yes, you will, but you will have less of them. More government equals more corruption and more waste. We just have to shrink government. The need for this could not be more obvious, whether you're like BI and you want to focus on history or whether you want to focus on the here and now, the bottom line remains that our government is just too damn big in every respect. It is out of control.

isn't one of the duties of the GSA is to get rid of buildings we own that are not being used
thereby shrinking the expense of maintaining buildings we don't use or need.

Taking a 5 day vacation to Hawaii for a one hour ribbon cutting is almost as bad as BO and his wife taking separate planes 4 hours apart.
The all shows a lack of concern for our money. I will say again this is not directly BO's fault but he surely isn't settong a good example.

Just some friendly teasing in the first post. Crazy boondogle though.

While I believe in conservative fiscal policies, I don't want our government employees feeling like they're working in a drab prison all the time. And if the government is gonna waste our money, at least waste it on something worthy...Navy ships looks pretty sharp with teak decks. And the July 4th fireworks over the National Mall are a little weak...I'm thinking a pyrotechnics celebration a la Battle of Endor would be impressive.

Gov't is out of control and it didn't start with Obama. Not only do we have GSA on a spending binge, but what about Panetta and his junkets home. Its maddening.

this is small potatoes compared to the scandal of Barack and his vacations he has jammed the tax payer with. Listing his daughters as advisers on trips so the tax payer has to fund their trip rather than barack. bet he isn't reporting that boondoggle as income either. His wife flying sperately from him yet going to the same place, all on the taxpayer dime. It's all disgusting the largesse at taxpayer expense.

that he was scouting out vacation spots for Michelle

The GSA has managed to clarify the point that increasing taxes is completely insane. Dramatic spending cuts are needed and the GSA seems to have volunteered as the place to start.

How about a poll of everyone that stayed in a company paid Vegas penthouse suite this year?

I would tend to think that his daughters would be seated in the Family Section of Air Force One. Sounds like more lies coming from this administration, they can't even be honest about this, how sad.
