That is probably going to go down as the worst draft decision ever. Oden has been a complete bust due to injuries, meanwhile Durant could be one of the best players of all time when his career is over. He has a long way but everything he has done so far points to him getting some titles. His youth is going to keep him around 10-15 years and thus his career stats are going to be right up there with the all-time greats some day.
Lots of similarities to the Sam Bowie pick, imo.
Especially factoring in Bill Walton, I would have thought that Portland would have steered cleared of Oden. Hell Oden looks older than me, and I got my bachelor's from UT in 1975.
Hindsight is 100%. I would have loved for the Blazers to draft Durant giving them the Texas two. However, at the time of the draft, just about every GM would have drafted Oden with the first pick. Unlike Bowie (who actually had an average career), he did not have the injury history Bowie did. The times he played you could see why he was drafted number one.
Was Oden injury prone in college? I can't remember. If so, then it was a horrible decision; if not, I still think it was a stupid decision against Durant.
