I saw this on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives on the Food Network and have never heard of it before., It looked like good BBQ.

Has anyone been there before? How was it?

I have never had their BBQ but their wings are ok. They weren't battered which I like but weren't very hot.

this is what bothers me about this show in general. I lived in Austin for 5 years and never once went to Green Mesquite, see it on the show and it looks great. Then ask those who've been there and you get "it's alright".

ive always liked their ribs. they used to have an all you can eat rib night when i was in school and we would hit that. it's the best bbq within 10 minutes of campus. you went to UT and never heard of green mesquite? it was really popular in the late 80's early 90's but have not bee there recently.

i will say the rest of their bbq is avg and their sides are terrible. they may have the worst potato salad ive ever had and i usually dont meet a potato salad i dont like.

It is interesting that the concensus here is that it is "OK", because I had never heard about it and when I saw it on DD & D last night, I thought how in the world did I not know about this.......and now I know why.

Just a bit of info...the same people that own the Green Mesquite restaurants also own
Scholz Garten. In fact, we should be thankful for that because they saved it from closing.

its ok

the pork ribs are good but other than that the non bbq items are better than the que -- cfs, catfish, sides, especially the okra, slaw and pintos. ice cold schooners of shiner bock help

the one on barton springs is better than the one in oak hill, for sure

I graduated from UT in 98, and sometime, I think when I was still in school Green Mesquite burned. I don't know if any one here remembers that. I remember the BBQ being pretty good. Nothing that was remarkable either for how great it was nor for how bad. I did hear that after the burn it wasn't as good.

I live near Oak Hill and I had no idea there was a Green Mesquite there. Might have to check it out sometime......

I have never been to the Green Mesquite off Barton Springs but have eaten at Scholz many times and they sometimes advertise Green Mesquite, not sure if that means the same guys that do it there do it at Green Mesquite. The food at Scholz is not very good but then again I don't go there for the food.

they own both places, scholz and the green mesquites

i think their pork ribs are probably the best bbq item they have

i would kill for the recipes for their cole slaw and pintos

I remember that. Was it just ribs or all BBQ? IIRC it was about $12 which was a fortune for a poor college student back then.

i recall it was just ribs and yes, i recall it being about 12 bucks which was really steep back then but we would go and treat ourselves occassionally.
