Green Laser Pointer

My kid is killing me for a green laser pointer.

We were at a campout this weekend, and a guy had one that threw a beam all the way up to the stars (so it seemed).

Anyone have any advice on what to get? This will be for his birthday, so I'll spend some money, but want to keep it under $100.00.

The few minutes I've spent researching have been overwhelming, so I thought I'd draw on the collective knowledge of the most well-informed group of folks I know.

Thanks.

My brother got a 20mW green laser from this place. Looks like anything now over 5mW is not available to US citizens anymore. Probably just as well. Still very good prices if you don't mind slow shipping. You can also get a lot of flashlight value from there.

I don't know anything about green lasers. Why would someone want a green one instead of the standard? Just curious...

A green laser will work w/ rear projection screens. Red...not so much. So if you do a lot of presenting in larger auditoriums where RPS are common you'll def. want a green laser.

I don't know what application a kid would have for one other than the "cool" factor, but in the presentation world green is pretty much it.

green make it easier to shine on air planes in the sky. causing horrid crashes

The green laser throws a visible beam several miles into the air at night, so it's "cool" when out camping, etc. and pointing out stars and planets.

And it can justifiably be considered a "rescue device" if you get lost hiking, because the beam can be seen from several miles away at night.

Thanks for the input so far.
