Green '11 vs Gray' '12 vs Sanders Jr. '12

i posted this on the other thread, but figure it deserves some comment on its own. we now have a true stud RB commit in M Brown for '11. A Green has made some interesting comments about playing with Brown for a heck of a T/L combo. we've been basically slow playing Green for a while, primarily due to focus energy on Brown's recruitment, but also because there have been no ships left. now that a certain TE that shall remain nameless has taken a pass on his ship, there is 1 open one. there are some rumblings about Nick O'Leary maybe being the guy (would take the O'Leary for ASJ trade ANYDAY.. kid was a STUD in the Gridiron 7 on 7s).

then there's '12. the top guy in texas is J Gray, who by all accounts will be a UT, OU, and TT brawl. would be a great complement to Brown.. but what about going for the gold in Barry Sanders Jr? kid is from OK, but doesn't like OU, has a father that is in the conversation of best RB in the NFL EVER, and has Texas in his top 5.. maybe 3 at this point. oh.. and check out the vid:

if we could get one of Green, Gray, and Sanders (let's be honest, chances of two are pretty slim... then again we got Jeffcoat AND Wilson last year...), who's the best bet? if it were up to me, i'd finish '11 with Rasco, try to get O'Leary to come for a visit and not go to florida (screw you for taking Brantley)... call it a class for the ages. take Cayleb Jones, Barry Sanders Jr, Curtis Riser, and Matt Davis, and forget the rest of the class LOL....

A. Green video. Kid's got some serious moves and speed. I say let's go for the Lightening to compliment our Thunder.

Sanders Jr. cuts just like his father and has speed to boot. I can understand Okie Lite already offering him, after all he is a legacy. But what gets me is that aggy has already offered him? REALLY???

And by Dat Nguyen. aggy is a piece of work.

Thanks, Colt. That Sanders Jr video is amazing. He's not merely outrunning tacklers, he makes them look freakin' stupid. And his balance and burst are unreal. Torbush.

In my mind, Sanders is the best of the bunch, though any of those 3 would be TREMENDOUS complimentary backs to Brown.

O'Leary is now the #1 rated TE on rivals. he tore s#%$ up in the 7 on 7 tourney a few weeks back. word is he's contacted the staff, and MAY be coming for a visit this fall. word is also that he's not the typical florida kid... his grandfather is Jack Nicklaus.. 'nuff said for pedigree. if we can get him in for a visit, we'd be legit contenders.

Sanders Jr. DOES NOT have the same moves as his dad BUT i will say he doesn't fall far from the tree and he is definitely faster! WOW what a running back.
Barry Sanders in my opinion was the greatest back of all time with moves that I didn't see his son even come close to. I did not get the fortune of watching Jim Brown but the old timers say he was the best....So Barry and Jim are top two and I did see Walter Payton.

Sanders looks better than Green, on the video, to me. He looks very ready for college already. Is he in a division equivalent to 4A or 5A or whatever?

OK...I have now watched that Sanders vid three times today. At the 4:40 mark, you hear the announcer refer to him as "the freshman." Those are freshman highlights?

The dude lowers his shoulder into linebackers, sidesteps tackles, stops on a dime, always works the stiffarm, has good burst from a full stop (good skill to have in a GD offense

), spins and pulls out of tackles on the run, keeping his balance. I'm freaking sold. I'll be watching his recruiting with great interest.

Clearly there is only one solution, we take them all. And yes, I mean Green, Gray, Sanders and O'Leary. We would have the most colorful backfield in the country if we had Brown, Green and Gray.

Barry Jr. is certainly a stud, but is there anything at all (other than wishful thinking) to indicate that he's interested in the Horns? Mack himself has said that to go after an out-of-state recruit, they normally need some type of tie-in to Texas (e.g. a parent or relative, formerly lived in Texas, etc.) to merit really going after them. Aside from generic hope, I wouldn't put too much stock in Barry Jr. becoming a Horn.

I'm just thankful and thrilled to death that we have Mr. Malcolm Brown on board, and trust that Mack will land another top RB prospect next year if not in this class.

Sanders has 7 offers to date, Texas is in HIS top 5, and OU ain't

“Things are going good. I have 7 offers right now. I think when September 1st rolls around I’ll hear from more schools. Right now Tennessee, Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, Arizona, Tulsa, Texas Tech, and Texas A&M have verbally offered. I don’t have any favorites but I have been paying a little attention to a few schools early. UCLA, Texas, FSU, Miami and Oklahoma state has been on the list for a while. I’m still open to this process though and I’m not ready to narrow things down at all. I really haven’t taken any visits this summer, but I know that after my season gets going I’ll start taking a lot more visits.”

This guy isn't just a game changer, he's a team changer, maybe even a program changer. He could put a team like Ok State into the top 10 pretty much single handed.

i could see OU getting into the picture, but i doubt it. mack is in contact with him.. no question he and gray are our top 2 RB priorities next year. this ain't a pipe dream folks. that being said, we still got to get past OSU (though 'i'm a man' gundy might help us just do that LOL).

OK, I know this is a little early but I've been working on my Christmas list and was wondering if it'd be too much to ask Santa for a running game that looks as good as Barry Sanders, Jr.'s high school team?

I think Aaron Green would be the nicest complement.

I always thought Barry Sanders was a team-killer RB. He could run for 200 yards against a great defense, and run for 20 yards against a terrible one. He may have always been a home run threat, but I don't know any other elite RB who couldn't consistently get 4 yards/carry when he had to. That said, would be shocked if Junior didn't end up at Okie State.

Green - 'cause he's now vs 2 maybes next year, & realistically, prob 1 next yr.

IOW, a Green in the hand is worth a Sanders & Gray in the bush.

texdoc.. that is the art of recruiting though. you could have said we would offer herschel sims or brandon williams along with green and brown, and take the 1st 1 or 2 guys. we would then almost certainly not get brown. you can't always take the great talent that is there, but forgo possible uber talent that is out there next.

True, but it seems like we've hit on that once in about the last 5 tries. (But Man I'm excited - that one hit was the HUGE one)

Recruiting rankings don't always pan out, but Brown looks to be so good that we will be better than fine with or without any of the 3 in question. Having said that, sure I would be thrilled with Sanders or Gray, but I really think that Green may be in their class abilitywise, & I don't think that was the case with Sims or Williams vs Brown. IOW, the talent diff was worth the gamble. My other thought concerns team chemistry. We can assume that Gray/Sanders would mesh fine with Brown, but since I don't personally know any of them, who knows. If any of them turn out to be prima donnas then you might just have a personality conflict over playing time or whatever. The fact that Brown & Green are already best friends who have discussed the advantages of playing together gets Green a lot of bonus points in my decision on this topic.

I agree Sanders has a phenomenal tape, but let's get real with the "team changer, program changer" stuff before we see it against some team that doesn't look like they just got out of middle school practice...

Go Horn, I agree. He looks like he's a little guy playing against guys even smaller than him. Sanders seems to have really good vision and runs well. But I really want to see him play against better players than vs private school players.

Everything I've read indicates that he absolutely does not like OU at all. So I'd love to hear the information that contradicts this, if you don't mind.

Give me Gray from Aledo. MaxPreps Nat'l Soph of Year...nearly 3000 yds rushing...50 rushing TDs last season. Took it 89 yds for a TD in the final 2min to clinch the state championship v. Brenham...wait for it....at DKR!
