Great Insight and Perspective Regarding NIL From bucknuts

Poor bucknuts....

But, wow, this was a bit eye-opening...even with my prior recognition of the effects and realities of the new NIL-impacted landscape.
Truly astounding the (predictable) course of things right now. Predictable again....but still astounding.

Among other notable bits....bucknuts AD tells community he needs appx 13milli to keep current roster on campus. Now, may be a bit of hyperbole...but there is real substance to the huge #s and new arms race taking shape...and the effects of it.

What I am waiting to see is the role and effects the character of players ends up playing....we've already seen some of this in collieville.

Enjoy...

Ohio State outbid by SEC school, couldn't afford 5-star recruit: report

As the rich get richer, it will become tougher and tougher for anyone outside the top 10-15 biggest $$$$$ programs to make a run for the playoffs and championship.

But then, there's TCU...

I'm a tad surprised that Ohio State isn't one of the top bidding programs. While their average fan wealth may be relatively low, they've got millions of fans in Ohio and elsewhere, and they tend to be pretty rabid. The sort that would take another win for the Buckeyes over healthy food, or new shoes that fit, for their children.

I don't pay too much attention to TCU; but I think they're loaded with upperclassmen. They may fall way off next year. I could be wrong.

While interesting, I don't see how this is materially different from before. Small schools have always had a problem with competing with the wealthier schools who choose to compete. I lived in Lubbock for three years and it was patently obvious that they could not recruit on a par with OU or Texas, for example. They got what UT and OU did not want. With occasional exceptions.

Ohio State will make up the money to go head to head with Bama and USC and
Texas et al. The other schools will continue to get leftovers, just like they always have and win a few. The real problem will be with the guys who will make up the depth at the big schools. If they are getting 50k at Texas as backups will they take off for UTEP and playing time for 5k?

What a mess…
Perhaps we can split the NCAA into NIL schools and Non Nil schools and have the student body and verified alumni vote where they want their school to play.
Then we can have the 2 champions play in-the final . I’d bet the non nil school wins.

Yeah and Aggy isn't gonna give up. They alone will probably pay $50 million per class to become relevant.

110%. aggy is obsessed with “greatness” and wanting to be in that conversation across the college football landscape. The bmd’s want to be personally part of that “legacy” that includes names on buildings, included in the ring of honor, and bringing aggy to the precipice of greatness. They will spend their last nickel, give up one of their arms and a left nut if they can be a part of that.

NIL is their ticket / toolkit to make it happen.

This is an interesting point. Often those who are hungry for success and honors beat those who are overly feted.

From Julius Caesar:
Let me have men about me that are fat,
Sleek-headed men and such as sleep a-nights.
Yond Cassius has a lean and hungry look,
He thinks too much; such men are dangerous.
