Would love to get a mini-catologue of useful things that one can do around the house to do anything from cure ailments to make plants grow better. Any takers?

I had one in mind and when I can remember what is was, I'll post it.

A good way to remember things on the tip of your tongue is to stand up and walk around.

Interestingly enough, the book Survivor, by Chuck Palahniuk, has a ton of those in it. It's about the lone survivor of this weird death cult, who makes a living as a housekeeper for the rich, and has all these random household hints about getting stains out of stuff, etc. I looked some of them up, because I don't really have much of a life, and they all supposedly worked. Plus, it's a pretty damn good read, too, if you like Palahniuk's singular style.

HA! All of a sudden, my literature suggestion is looking pretty badass.

I can tell you that putting strips of aluminnum foil into muriatic acid will produce a noxious gas as the acid eats the foil. If you do this in a 2 liter bottle and then cap it and run, it will explode with a loud bang. You could also use it as propellant if you make some sort of an aperture around the lid, rather than completely closing it off, in case you want to launch the bottle across a field.

This is how I spent my formative years, terrorizing my East Plano neighborhood with loud bangs and burnings of action figures with Hayden_Horn.

Looks like this is turning into a anarchist cookbook thread. That being said, styrofoam and gasoline makes sweet napalm...you know in case you ever need to...um...teach your toys a lesson or something. The Princess Liea/Bounty hunter from Return of the Jedi never even knew what hit her.

Oh, and on topic.....asprin in your flowers makes them last longer. Licking the top of your mouth makes 'brain freeze' subside. Looking up, makes a sneeze go away. The tobacco of a cig+water will lessen the sting of a wasp.

I'm sure it will. I only know about it because I was camping with my neighbors and a wasp just landed on my arm and stung the **** out of me for no reason. He is a smoker...and I was very impressed.

Meat tenderizer works better. Wasp sting is just protein and Adolph's or baking soda will break it right down. I also happen to know that Adolph's will ease the pain of a mild sting ray hit like magic.

Saltpeter and sugar will make a smoke bomb big enough to get the fire department out to your house or will cause the stoppage of a Spurs game if set off with time-delay fuses (incense matches) in several bathrooms of the old convention center arena.

Duct tape will remove cactus thorns that you can't see as well as the hairs that you can see. It will also remove warts if left on for a week or two.

if a light bulb breaks when you try to unscrew it, then using a half a raw potato is the best way to unscrew it. just jab the ****** down onto the broken glass and turn.

Here are a couple:

Wrap celery in aluminum foil when putting in the fridge-it'll keep for weeks.

To prevent egg shells from cracking, add a pinch of salt to the water before hard-boiling.

Another good light bulb remover is a pair of needle nose pliers in reverse. Stick them in closed and gently open them up and twist. Turn off the light first.

I knew this thread would die in this forum.

pink pencil erasers takes off rust from porceline (sp?) sinks and bathtubs.

You can wash the mildew and **** off of your shower curtain by putting it in the washing machine with about 1/4 a cup or so of baking soda and bleach.

Putting Katsup on the bottom of copper bottom pots cleans all of the yucky tarnish off-- you don't even have to rub it really.

Wrapping silver in plastic keeps in from tarnishing.

If your showerhead is clogged, just fill a zip lock bag with vinegar and tie it around the showerhead so the head is submerged. Leave it overnight and the next morning your showerhead will be as good as new.

Oh, and raisin bran helps you poop.

womens stockings prevent blisters from boots or new shoes

windex takes out blood--

don't flush pads or put them in trashcans where the dog can reach them

superglue is a good way to stop bleeding-- seals the cut right up

powder water softener can clean silver, brass, and other stuff

if your house is not cooling--spray down the outside unit coil to help it along

gas and diesel are NOT interchangeable in engines

if you get something acidic in your eye-- wash w/ milk

I'm thinking of more right now

also-- vinegar in boiling water keeps poached eggs together-- otherwise it loooks like you are making egg drop soup

Freeze bread to keep it fresh

fill a ziplock bag with water then add fish fillets to it from getting freexer burned, also keeps it fresher tasting

Orange juice with a shot of tequilla and a half a shot of curacoa for breakfast tastes better than plain orange juice

Made me think of another one-- put deodorant on your heels, toes, etc. where you expect blisters to rub. the deo will pull the moisture out that would become a blister and keep you from getting one.

Putting listerine on zits of bug bites seems to make them heal faster.
