We played lights out defense except on a couple post moves. Their crowd had no idea what was going on, but thats called great defense. No jumping on pump fakes, maintaining great position, just good all around. Way to go guys.
This what I was coming on here to post. The defense is the difference between getting blown out by 20 and a 10 point win on the road. When we were shooting 20% in the first half, our D is what kept us in the game and didn't let it get out of hand. Against the ags, we couldn't shoot AND we couldn't defend and that is what got us killed. The lineup with DJ, AJ, Mason, James and Johnson can flat out play "in your face" man D and it really rattled the sooners. If we can continue to commit to playing defense like that, we can hang with anybody.
Great game AJ and Justin. You guys really picked it up when no one else could make anything. LIterally last week, when James had an off night the rest of the offense folded up shop and stood around watching. Tonite, AJ and Mason really picked up the slack when James and Atchely were ice cold.
I thought we rebounded pretty well. The Griffins are beasts, so they will out rebound most teams by themselves (they ended up with 24 total). The numbers show that they had 10 off rebounds, but I don't think they really hurt us that bad. I dont' know what the second chance pts were.
I thought the zone was effective because OU doesn't have great shooters. Godbold hit a few, as did Crocker, but overall, they were 25% from three.
Not having Longar Longar definitely hurt them, but injuries are part of the game.
Good, tough win by the Horns tonight. I wasn't feelng too good about it, but they pulled together and got a win.
Our post players aren't bad, but we don't really have a good 1 on 1 stopper. Atchley's fast for his size and a good shot blocker, but he still gets outmuscled. James was hustling all over but just isn't that big, he's really a SF who has to play post. Dexter has the strength but isn't nearly quick enough.
We were pushed around in the first half and part of the second on the post. I thought that we really stepped up at the end though and BG looked like he was getting frustrated.
Actually Crocker was nailing 3's in the 1st, but he was guarded tougher in 2nd. And Austin Johnson has been a pain in the *** with his 3-pt shooting in the past, but not last night.
