Grand Cayman Trip

Never been before and have a 5 night trip planned to the GC in a couple of weeks, staying at the Ritz. Right now I have reservations for 2 days of "resort" diving and a trip over to the stingray sandbar. Thinking about renting a jeep...

Anyone have any suggestions on other "can't miss" activities or good restaurants? Thanks in advance!

Highly recommend Dive Tech for a resort course.

Papagallos, Almond Tree, Wharf are favorite restaurants. Lobster Pot is nothing special, but good and less expensive.

Papagallos is on a lagoon/bird sanctuary. Excellent food and great atmosphere.

There is a "Texas cafe" in front of the Hyatt. I can never remember the name. Owner is from San Antonio Lee and an Aggie (class with Pat Rocket). On certain nights (used to be Thursday ro Friday), local dive company owner and his "oldies" band play on patio. Not great, but Cayman doesn't have a lot of nightlife.

As for your Jeep tour, it's not a bad idea - Turtle Farm, "Hell", and South and east sides of island. When you get to the Southeast corner of island, keep in mind that about 250 yards out there is the third deepest trench in the world - floor goes from 110 ft to over 23,000 ft. Cayman has multiple walls to dive (85 ft to 5000 off north sound, 100 ft to 8000 ft near Dive Tech with a mini wall in between, and the big one that not many people see.

If you dive at Stingray City, ask your divemaster about Darth Vader. She is gone now, but damn shee was amazing and really busted my *** back in the early 90s.
Very relaxing place, enjoy.

BTW, I promised the Aggie an autographed t-shirt from Fanchione if he would burn the Mackovic autographed t-shirt. He told me to get him the Fancione t-shirt and he'd mail me the Mackovic so I could burn it. I got him his Franchione t-shirt and he never sent the other to me. Please collect it while you are there.

I spent 8 days at the Ritz Carlton in Cayman a while back, easily one of the best trips I have ever taken. It is very safe, you can walk anywhere late at night with no worries. If You want to rent a boat or a jet ski or do a tour don't rent from anyone other than Fat Fish Adventures. They will drop your rental right on the beach in front of the Ritz Carlton. You just pay for the time you want and you can ride anywhere you choose. Most other rental agencys have a set area you must stay in. Fat Fish doesn't put a governor on their jet skis, they are really fast! I had another rental company tell me if I had already ridden a jetski from Fat Fish,I really wouldn't enjoy theirs. Take a walk down 7 mile beach to the Royal Palms. It has an outdoor bar right on the beach that has live music at night and draws up a fun crowd. Berkley is the head man there and he is a really great guy,be sure to ask for him. He and his wife have a taxi and he knows everything about Cayman. He also has a nice supply of Cuban Cigars. I am major jealous it will be a great time for sure.

Just got back from Grand Cayman last week. I 2nd the recommendation about Fat Fish Adventures. We had a great time on their jet ski's

Make sure you snorkel Eden Rock if possible. Eat some rum cake as well...Blackbeard's is better than Tortuga...trust me.
