Graham Harrell vs. Keith Null

Does it seem really odd that Keith Null--apparently an all district QB for Lampasas-- lights it up for West Tex A&M in Amarillo and ends up ahead of Graham Harrell, who sets records in HS and lights up D1 ball in the Big XII in Lubbock ?

Kind of.

I don't know much about the West TX aggy QB, but I personally do not think GH is very athletic at all. He can definitley chunck the ball, but from what I have seen he can't scramble and is terrible from behind center. Not many teams will gamble on a QB with these two issues.
It also pays Not to be a crybaby.

Is the QB from West Tx aggy a scrambler or does he come from a prostyle system? If so, I'm not too surprised some team would take chance on him before GH.

I think Null has a more projectable frame at 6'3 3/4 and 230.

he could fill out to be a poor man's Ben Roethlisberger. Not saying he will be.

the interersting thing is west tx a&m runs tt's offense--not a modified version or anything of the sort, but a carbon copy.

thus all the "system" arguments that supposedly hurt harrell's chances, also apply to null.

Harrell didn't miss a chance to be drafted by what he did in college. I heard he pretty much stunk it up at an all star practice week and game where he had to take the ball under center. It's a different skill set he didn't pick up quickly. Not to say he can't practice and hone his skills to get those skills. Obviously the kid can make quick decisions and put the ball in the right place -- in a familiar system.

Same deal as all of the other Tech QBs. Why take one if the others haven't been successful in the league, with the same exact preparation at Tech?

Kliffy was all-world in college but couldn't hold a 3rd string job. I'd take him over Harrell in terms of accuracy and awareness.

Symons/Hodges/Cumbie all put up record setting numbers. I would like to know what tools Harrell has that those guys don't.

Leach turned this into a Harrell vs. McGee thing, when in reality he should be looking at all of the other QBs his system kept out of the NFL. Oh, and McGee still sucks.

It's not like there is a quarterback U out there somewhere. I guess USC does a good job of getting its quarterbacks drafted high, but the school signs only guys with immense potential and it's not like all the guys from there drafted high from USC are going to the pro bowl. Look at Florida, Florida State, Penn State, Ohio State, Nebraska, Alabama, OU, Georgia, LSU, Texas, etc. Is any program is regularly producing great pro quarterbacks? Would Harrell have been drafted if he had played for Sam Houston State?

Tech will never need a blue chip guy to run Leach's system anyways, so I don't see it as something that will hurt recruiting.

There are lots of HS QB's that won't get big time offers bc they're undersized, don't have the strongest, etc. so Leach will find a guy to run his offense.
