I stayed at the Sands at Grace Bay 3 or 4 years ago. I liked the resort. It was fairly small, but nice, and the people were great. For example, my son got an ear infection and we went to the little store to buy some tylenol or something. They were out,but the store manager drove into town to get us some.
As for the rest of the island, the beach was fantastic, the restaurants were moderately expensive (as is most of the Caribbean), but I wish I went 4-5 years before we actually did. The entire island was under construction, including the main road into town.
I would not hesitate to go back. It was beautiful.
There is a poster on here, used to be LondonOllie --- not sure what his name is now, that lived in T&C on Provo for a few years, and he should have more information than you'll ever need.
there are definitely other threads about T&C on here, and some are recent.
I went on a budget (used miles for a plane ticket). we stayed at Sibonne (www.sibonne.com I think). It is a great little bed and breakfast type place. pool is not great, but there's the most amazing beach right out your door - why would you need a pool!? the restaurant there, Bay Bistro, is one of the best on the island. we absolutely loved it.
i do hear things are changing as so many resorts are built up.
The Regent Palms and Grace Bay Club are supposed to be incredible, but both are pricey.
Avoid Club Med!
don't expect a super happening night life. i feel like it's more of a "relax and explore" island. we did a snorkeling cruise with a company called Silver Deep I think? It was awesome - really fun.
