Gallup Poll: Only Highest Earners Support Gutting Collective Bargaining

Demonstrators outside the Wisconsin state Capitol, February 16, 2011.Gov. Scott Walker (R-WI) does have at least one demographic on his side in the battle to eliminate collective bargaining rights for public unions — the wealthy.

Earlier this week,Gallup released a poll showing that six in ten Americans said they oppose plans to roll back collective bargaining rights for public unions in their own states. AsGreg Sargent noted today, only one income bracket within that poll — those making more than $90,000 per year — favors that idea.

Link? And it's "Every day" with a space. Your first sentence is incomplete. What is "this thing" referenced in your second sentence?
Your third sentence is a fragment.

I guess the Wisconsin Dems better get used to living in Illinois. Walker just took office on Jan. 3. He's got a long way to go and he's not backing down.

don't forget we are STILL waiting for you to post a 'starvation stat " link as well as links that show Walmart pays less than mom and pop stores AND that Walmart depresses wages of areas in which it opens stores. You like to make statements but don't like to back them up.

At least Satchel did post a link today.

This board has Satchel on the left, and general, 6721 and a few others on the right with similar styles..

The unions are addressing Walker’s refusal to negotiate. He represents management in what is essentially a labor dispute. And by refusing to negotiate, today AFSCME (which started in Wisconsin in 1932) filed an unfair labor practice claim against Walker. Eddie Vale, spokesman of the AFL-CIO, sends this over:

On behalf of AFSCME workers their attorney is filing an unfair labor practice against Walker. Alleging that he has violated his legal duty to bargain in good faith. The workers have agreed to ALL of Walker’s concessions on wages, benefits and pensions but he is refusing to sit down to bargain a compromise to get Wisconsin moving forward again and creating jobs

Not really hard to see why he isn't interested in giving back what allowed the union to get the benefits they have. If he gives on the collective bargaining question, they're right back where they started from in two years.

Satch, what do you think about FDR's statement about public sector unions?

You mean where he fired the air traffic controlers? It's ok to admit when you don't know what I'm talking about or don't want to answer a question. It's not like it would be atypical for you.

Don't flatter yourself with your misplaced asshattery. As I wrote earlier, I prefer the Reagan quote which follows:

"One of the most elemental human rights [is] the right to belong to a free trade union." -- Ronald Reagan

ELECTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES. Walker ran on what he intended to do, and won. Now the losers are trying to grab the marbles back so they can come home. Tough luck - they should have elected their chosen (and I'm sure highly funded) candidate. At least the Republicans in Congress showed up and voted against HCR, even after the dems changed the rules to allow the vote to be a simple majority. My understanding is that there are not enough WI congressmen in Illinois to stop the duly elected majority from doing what they were elected by saying they would do. They are really big about "compromises" they want. I can't remember a single thing that Republicans wanted in the HCR bill that was welcomed by Nancy et al. Compromise is what the losers want to happen. So the WI dems should STFU and go to work.

As I understand it, Walker did not run on a platform to eliminate collective bargaining. Do you have a link for this claim?

And after that you can provide a link where he's said he wants to eliminate collective bargaining. Check that - one where the writer actually cites the bill rather than getting it wrong.

Here is an idea for the unions whining about " rights".
What if a commission was set up to bargain with the public union people? A commission made up of the people who actually are the 'employers", in this case Wisc taxpayers.

Wouldn't that be more in line with what happens in private sector companies bargaining with unions?

As it is set up now the public sector unions are the "farmer-foxes" bargaining with the chickens( Dem Pols) who rely on the foxes for their food.

So far no union spokeperson and certainly none of the thugs protesting have offered a legitimate complaint reason for the necessity of collective bargaining of PUBLIC union members.
