SO i have a new Ipod....a Nano 8G. What I need help with is I am not an Apple kind of guy. How do I convert the songs from Mp3 (or whatever format i use on my walkman) to play on my Ipod? I think this can be done. My daughter has the walkman and I want to be able to share songs with her.....just have one file.

ANy ideas? I have heard of some programs that distort the sound, therefore the quality is not as good.

Help would be appreciated.

thanks for the reply.

Does this mean I can offload them from my windows media player as i do now? Do i HAVE to download itunes?

When i download my songs from Walmart, they go now directly into my windows media player (i think). I want to be able to load the songs onto both.

as far as I'm aware, you have to use itunes as the conduit to get into your ipod. But you can drag mp3 files right in there. It will also pull songs from cds or whole cds and put them on the ipod.

I tried just opening my ipod when i got it and couldn't do it. had to go on to itunes.

Whatever you do, DO NOT BUY SONGS FROM iTUNES!!! some on here say you can convert them to mp3 but I have not been able to convert all of the songs. (in order to convert you have to burn to a disk and then turn around and download them and convert at that time but it doesn't work on all songs)
DRM in iTunes songs will prevent you from playing songs bought on iTunes on your daughter's mp3 player.

so what the hell do i do? DO i buy them from Wally World and set them to download to itunes, or WMP? Or do I have to download to both spots (itunes and WMP)

Can i send songs from itunes to my sony walkman?

I tried to search for these answers but all the sites i go to contradict one another. The power of Hornfans is needed.

You cannot send songs from your iPod to the Walkman.

If you download songs from Walmart, they will play on your iPod and the Walkman, but you will have to use two different programs to do so (or you can use iTunes for the iPod, and just drag and drop to the Walkman).

Now, this is important. You need to make sure you make backup discs of all your music/videos/pictures that you put on your iPod.

If your computer crashes and you have to do a re-install , you will not be able to move the files you have on your iPod back to your computer.

I just went through this and it was maddening. You also will no longer be able to sync your iTunes with your iPod because doing so will cause it to erase all the songs you have on your iPod that you lost when your cpu crashed.

The only songs it will recover are those purchased from iTunes. This has been the only downside of owning an iPod over a "normal" mp3 player that I have discovered.

You can use iTunes the program on your computer to manage your songs, it's easy and yes all you have to do is click and drag them to your other MP3 device. But buy your music from non DRM sites like Amazon. It will auto the songs for you to your iTunes library and then you can go from there. I don't know if you got confused or not on the statement "do not buy from iTunes" but it is safe to STORE songs purchased from other sites in the iTunes program just don't buy songs from iTunes.

Damn. Sorry I missed that. You did not even get one response.

I suppose you can't argue against Apple protecting themselves, but it's almost criminal that people are led to believe their iPods should only exist to function as a mirror of the library on their computer.

I see that the software from my link above costs $20. It's been over a year since I used the program (it was called "CopyPod" at the time), and I vaguely remember using some trial feature that limited my file transfers to ~100 songs per transfer session. It took a while to move everything from my 4G nano onto a new PC, but obviously worth it. It might even be worth it to just drop $20 on that, but I haven't made the effort to find freeware that does the same functions.

HOLY CRAP!

Good ol' Winamp offers an iPod plug-in that just let me move my music from my iPod back to my cpu.

Allsome...

Not sure what the confusion is, but I've also used WinAmp to rip songs from an iPod to my PC hard drive. Google should produce no end of programs that will do the same. I think I've also used one called iFill (can't confirm as the program is on another computer).
