GOR Question

I have never claimed to be the brightest bulb in the chandelier, but can someone explain to me how the GOR for the next umpteen years benefits UT and ou for that matter? Also, there has to be an "out". For example if the conference ceases to exist. And what would have to happen for that to occur?

Grant of Rights? The TV rights we (all members) apparently agreed to give up for a number of years if we leave the conference?

Well OK....I understand WHY they did it. I Just dont understand how this benefits UT. For example...would UT throw a fit if baylor decided to leave. Doubtful. We would just replace them on the schedule. UT and OU will NEVER have a problem finding a home. Sure, there may have to be some adjustments to the LHN and soonervision (?), but if ESPN has their finger in all this realignment, anything can happen. Not trying to be pretentious, but UT/OU really dont have to depend on anyone else for survival. baylor on the otherhand.........

OK thanks.

Anybody else? Lets say I worked for an insurance company and there was a plan in place to share residuals and forfiet such residuals for a period of time if we left the company. Being the top producer and knowing that I could get a job anywhere/anytime, I dont think I would agree to that. The less productive people would love it. I have to be missing something. Understatement of the year here.... I'm sure Deloss knows more about his job than I do, I just dont see how in BENEFITS UT. Sorry for being so dense....

Excuse me, sir. Seeing as how the V.P. is such a V.I.P., shouldn't we keep the P.C. on the Q.T.? 'Cause if it leaks to the V.C. he could end up M.I.A., and then we'd all be put out in K.P.

The benefits of UT going all in with the others on TV rights are being seen right now. The Big XII is not on life support anymore, and in fact, has become a destination conference for some pretty attractive schools out there. I haven't believed much of what I've heard reference realignment, but I have believed Deloss Dodds most of the time when he's said UT would prefer to remain in a viable Big XII. The G(rant) O(f) R(ights) makes the Big XII viable.

So your're saying that we are giving up some $ to make the conference stronger. That has to be wrong because we all know Texas' greed, desire to control everything and the LHN is what broke up the previous B12.

We only did it as a "ha ha" to aggy

But why would we want to throw baylor, kansas, iowa st. a bone. We are the bone they knaw on. Just seemed to me that we should always have a way out if it becomes necessary. We are allowed to look out after ourselves arent we? Everybody else does. Are we the conference provider?

Obviously Texas and ou want the Big 12 conference to be viable and stable, and Texas likes that big fat check from the LHN. No other conference worth a **** is going to accept Texas with the LHN.

So it seems the idea would be to start with a clean sheet and design a conference that allows the big schools to maximize their profitability which in turn, provides the smaller albeit competitive schools a relevant conference to play in. In the past, it seemed like everyone was laboring under a system designed at the end of the SWC, and a lot has changed. I hope all the ADepts see what an opportunity nu, mizzu and aggie provided. I don't think the leadership and thinkingwould have changed without the real fear of the conference flaming out.

Sorry, but any conference in the nation will take Texas with the LHN because of the revenue and publicity that Texas generates as a conference member. (See ou's attempt last year to move to the PAC-12 - they received the cold shoulder until Texas showed interest.) As aggy and Missouri are finding out - they add nothing to the SEC mix except scheduling headaches.

Conference officials are like politicians - if their mouths are moving, they are lying.
