ok, so I have a beef with this ******* that is ripping a lot of people off.

There was a recent article published about some of his dirty dealings. This article was published in a business journal in another state on the other side of the country.

When you google this guy, the article comes up on page 4. Is there a way to make it come up sooner?

I had a similar problem. I was trying to get some independent information about an expensive technical school in Dallas that one of my students was thinking about attending. I googled it and the first hundred or so listings were all almost identical pages from the school itself touting its successes. It took me a long time to finally find a page that had discussion about the school from someone else, and it was not complementary. I guess if you know how to flood a topic you can pretty much drown out other information.

He is probably using a technique known as SEO or search engine optimization. You can use the techniques to keep your webpage as high as possible in Google results. He is probably doing that to keep his bogus positive info high in search results and the negative info low. To get the negative results closer to the top, you would have to use similar tactics. I'm no expert in SEO, but there are probably some on this board that could help. I know that one major factor Google uses in ranking results is how often the page is linked to. So I can't encourage spamming boards with links to the info, but the more often you link to the negative article (on indexed websites), the higher it will come up in the results.

here are some pointers..... as i had to do this on the cheap and with very little time for a friend(s). i was able to get into the top three on google. however, i should mention there was nothing really competing for this listing, so it rose up pretty fast. took about two or three months.

google is very private about their practices, but here are the best things you can do.... that are public.

1. submit the site to google. there is a process. look it up.
2. having other pages link to his page. for instance, you linking the page here on hornfans and people clicking on it will actually help it rise.
3. the more links to the page from unrelated sites or external sites is the absolute best thing you can do.

google's software is smart enough to see that people that click on the "high times" link when they search for "marijuana" is a point. people that go to my pro marijuana legalization website and click on a link to "high times" that i have provided gives "high times" another point. google is saying, hey people that like to read about marijuana seem to click on this link the most.

i am not an expert by any means, but my sister does search engine optimization. without access to the content, which you don't have, this is probably the best you can do.

google arranges based on relevance, and that formula is complicated. another way to help reference him is to link to his page off of other pages that report the kind of scamming you do. for instance, if you had a doctor you didn't like. it would be smart to fill out a doctor review on every site you can think of AND (very important) provide a link to his page on that review.

also register with the other search engines.... yahoo etc.
