How do you get it to where on the google homepage, the search bar doesn't come down with past searches everytime you press a letter of something you've searched before? Thanks.
 
I just noticed this same thing after I got upgraded to Windows XP. With Windows 2000 (or whatever I had before XP) I didn't get this search history list.

So, maybe it has to do with your operating system?
 
if I understand your problem correctly, the solution is to turn off the "auto fill-in" feature on your browser.
 
In IE, it's probably:
Tools -> Content Tab -> Auto Complete button -> Uncheck "Use Autocomplete for Forms"

Not aware of a way to tell it to just not autocomplete on Google.
 
I use Firefox, with a built-in Google search bar, and it does not keep the history in a pull-down menu. I HIGHLY recommend dumping IE for Firefox - it works just as well, is free, and isn't nearly as susceptible to spyware.

where is this Auto Complete actually stored? if the Delete Cookies, Delete Files, or Clear History is used, the entries keep returning, not just for forms like the Google search bar, but also for URL's in the IE address bar.
