Yup. They tested it out in Kansas City and seem ready to do their do, in Austin. At 3 a.m. EST this morning for a short time on the Google site it said that it was coming to Austin. It's now gone but not before Engadget people and others saw it. They were likely testing it out, getting it ready for the official announcement.

There is a conference twixt Google and the City of Austin next week. YES!!!

I can now drop my internet carrier. Already kicked cable tv to the curb so why not finish the process. If this does not force the cable companies to change their business model, nothing will and they can rot and die.

Keep Austin Googled!!!

A gigabyte connection is cool, but if you're downloading from a server that's on a ten megabyte connection, guess how fatst your download is going to be?......

So fast that The Eyes of Texas could make two posts in one attempt.

This looks promising. I wonder how long it's going to take to lay all that fiber optic cable? that seems like a massive undertaking. I think they said it's going to be at least a year....probably late 2014 when this comes about.

Everything is going Terabit......I would wait for Terabit Wireless. Google will fail at trying to implement such infrastructure in existing neighborhoods. They have no clue what kind of internal infrastructure they will have to maintain to keep that Fiber in peak condition.

For Gigabit to be true Gigabit it needs to be from end to end that speed, if you won't pay cable internet prices you are not going to pay Googles prices.

The more I think about it the less it seems for me. What I have now works just fine and I won't pay any more money for tons of channels I won't watch, just like cable. And the price point is sucky, for me.

I have really gotten used to saving a bunch of money every month and still watching what I want, when I want on my big screen HDTV via computer stream and HDMI.

Maybe the competition will lower my internet bill which is already pretty low.
